Best Traditions

  I was watching Big Ten Network today, and they had a top 10 'Best Gameday Traditions' in the Big Ten. For instance, the big drum at Purdue, U of M touching the Go Blow banner as they enter the field, and naturally, Script Ohio was #1. It got me thinking, what are some of the best gameday traditions at your High School.
  
  At Massillon, The band plays 'Fanfare, Tiger Rag and Carry on', they have since I believe 1934, I mean think about it, there hasn't been a Massillon game played since 1934, where they haven't played those songs.
  
  Also, before the Tigers enter the field, the band forms an M in the middle of the field, and the cheerleaders pull Obie, the live Tiger through the band.
  
  Another one is, as the Tigers are running onto the field, Massillon's PA man, Walt Bronzak, (the best PA man in the country), says, HEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRS THE TIGERS. I guess you gotta be there for that one, but trust me, it's good.

  At their home games, the Anthony Wayne Generals have a mounted rider dressed in Revolutionary War garb, ride at full gallop down the center of the football field and out the far end and then the outstanding band, known widely for it's excellence and also dressed in those three corner hat Revolutionary war uniforms, comes high stepping onto the field and boy do they put on a show. All in all, a very impressive tradition that really gets the crowd into the festivities before the teams come out later.

  SF, that does sound pretty cool, are the three corner hats and the Rev. war unis their normal unis?

  Yes, skank. The Generals have been wearing those uniforms for at least 40 years or so. It's quite entertaining.

  Here is a video (already in progress) of the Fanfare, Tiger rag and carry on, performance from a McKinley game. Correction, it has been a tradition since 1938, not 1934. This video isn't the greatest, but it gives you an idea.

  Big Red has had the fire-breathing horse since 1970. The have been running under the "Go Red...Key Club Supports You" since the early 80s. The band has been playing "The Horse" as the team runs onto the field since the 70s.

  Dublin Scioto used to have a piper lead them on to the field, as their nickname was the Irish, I always used to think that was pretty cool

  I don't know if this is considered tradition but the Rittman band marches out in the shape of an R for the National anthem and then forms a tunnel when the team runs out

  Columbus DeSales stretches silently in a cross formation as part of the pre-game routine.
  
  Nothing spectacular but it is something different that DeSales takes pride in.

  Big Red has many traditions MOW mentioned just a few.One he didn't mention is how the band plays and dances in the endzone while the team warms up.

  Oh yea, I forgot about that. That actually started when I was in high school...1984....Reno wanted to have a "pep rally" at the game instead of during school, so he asked the band to come early. It has been done at every game since.

  I work with another NLL School and am always entertained by the Generals Marching band when we are at AW

  for newark catholic its the walk from the school to white field. for big games ( ie. state championship games) our players used to walk out of the locker room in single file, dead silent, and stopped in front of the fans dropped to a knee and said the hail mary. it sucks that they don't do that any more. i think that really get the crowd fired up to cheer the team on
