Let's talk the last year of the Suburban Lakes League.
-
GhmothwdwhsoWhere does everyone finish? Let's name your top three.
Who are the top players in the league?
My top 3 teams.
1. Eastwood
2. Lake
3. Genoa
Top position players is one thing I don't know enough how to pick, and only know a few names:
RB from Eastwood
RB, Tantari from Lake
QB, Sandwich from Woodmore
QB from Elmwood
Who does Genoa have for their backfield? I'm sure it will be good, but they lost nearly all of their starters.
I am interested in hearing input from around the league. -
RocketsfanAre you seriously putting Genoa behind Eastwood and Lake, or are these in no particular order ?

No particular order. -
Classyposter58I can bet Bryer will be QB with Dufendock, Murphy and Cuevas in the backfield with Sibby being a frequent sub as well. Allgier should have a solid season at WR. Depending on how far Bryer comes this year will decide how far this team can go but man they sure lost alot
-
bwcomet89Bryer will likely be QB, although last time I had heard from him he wasn't extatic about it. However, Genoa has a slim pick at that position and it's either the Junior Bryer or maybe the Soph. Young? But with the stable of capable running backs and experienced o-line Genoa has it should not be rough for them to gain yards on the ground. Dufendock and Cuevas will have the bulk of the carries, but I expect Murphy, Sibby, and maybe Pickard to get carries too. The thing about TPick is that although he is a good runner he may not get many carries because he could be the best kicker in D4 this season and it may be too risky. Genoa lost a lot, but they surely have enough to be at the top of the SLL. Their JV's had as much if not more Friday night experience as the Varsity, so it won't be a lack of experience.
Genoa beat Lake and Eastwood by 92 points last year. It is hard to pick against the Comets.
Top players that I know of in the SLL:
Connor, Eastwood RB
Sutter, Genoa OT
Roberts, Genoa CB
Sandwisch, Woodmore QB(Keep an eye on this kid, best qb in the SLL by far imo)
Tantari, Lake RB
Hirzel, Lake LB
It's about as hard to pick top players from the SLL as it is to not drop a ton of Genoa players. The SLL is top heavy this year. -
eaglemanHows camp/practices/ 7 on 7's going for the teams in the SLL?
-
mrtinkertrainHow are Woodmore and Gibsonburg looking? I know there is some hope in woodmore based upon how they finished but look at who they beat? The week one match up against PC should be interesting as it pits two of the best qbs in the area against each other in Derek Colston and Jon Sandwhich.

Add to Woodmore's excitement becuase new head coach Devier from Patrick Henry....we all know how that program is. -
Swamp FoxI like Genoa to repeat in the final year of the SLL. They do lose a lot of talent, but the program in place is solid and I have heard that although a lot of new faces dot the Genoa line-up, they are players who are quite capable of continuing the Comet's success. Eastwood and Lake would be my next two picks, and I'm not sure about the order of those two teams as yet. I'm also hearing some good news from the Woodmore camp concerning some players who could turn the Wildcats around in 2010.

bwcomet89According to the OHSAA site, Genoa has finally scheduled a week 5 game versus Upper Scioto Valley. I did a little research on them, and they are located about 90 minutes(80 miles) from Genoa HS. They are a division 6 team from the Northwest Central League(or conference, not sure). Last season they finished 6-4, defeating many mediocre teams and losing to one team I recognized, Tinora 48-12. They averaged about 30 ppg, allowing 20ppg. 220 passing ypg and 120 rushing ypg.
By the looks of it, both schools were desperate for a week 5 game and scheduled the closest team available. Otherwise I see no reason these teams would ever play another. The game will be on the road at Upper Scioto Valley. I'd rather see Genoa play Northwood at home, but looks like Northwood would rather play Delta. -
RocketsfanI was hoping for a Genoa - Northwood game as well. I watched Northwood at two 7 on 7 scrimmages and they have some talented receivers for sure. I think that would have been a good game.
-
oberhausNorthwood wasn't an option as it was only a one year deal. Genoa could have played Columbus DeSales......but decided not to. They also sought after a Cleveland team but were turned down. Rogers was an option but I guess the AD decided against that. At least I think I was told Rogers.....maybe it was Bowsher.
-
RocketsfanIs Genoa scrimmaging Clyde again this year ? Curious why they would turn down DeSales ? Seems like that would be a good test for them. Better than a D6 team.
-
mrtinkertrainWhy would they turn down Desales and Rogers? Theres only one answer to that the comet's are clearly afraid of high quality regular season competition. They would be better for having played and lost to Desales than they ever will be for kicking the crap out USV. For petes sake get your kid's some real competition when you've got the chance not sign up another kick me hard.
-
eaglemanEastwood goes out and gets PH. Genoa goes and gets good ole USV
-
bwcomet89I cannot defend Genoa's decision on picking up USV, other than possible underlying agreements that may have stalled between Genoa and Rogers/Bowsher/DeSales. I really don't know I only wanted to relay info I just found. DeSales probably wanted a larger piece of the revenue pie and Genoa didn't want to budge on it, but that's just a guess. Playing a CL team would have been pretty beneficial for Genoa though, that is a lot of points and Genoa would be heavy favorites versus either of those teams.

O settle down listen whats Desales gonna do for Genoa? I mean honestly the Comets won't beat a team like that and could risk injuries to such a big and fast team. It's an unnecessary risk for a game where your almost guaranteed no points. I would have liked to see Genoa play Rogers yes but at the end of the day all that matters is a 10-0 season and a homefield playoff game
Eagleman how many computer points did playing Patrick Henry get you last year? O and when is the last time you made a State Final 4? Thats what I thought. How about you worry about keeping it within 6 touchdowns of the Comets next year instead -
RocketsfanOOOOWWWEEEE it must be almost football season when MTT and the former GCG are having differences of opinions about Genoa Football ! I do think that given Genoa's success over the past few years they would welcome a tough test against DeSales or someone of that caliber. A 10 - 0 season filled with cupcakes does not equal a deep run in the playoffs. Remember last year ?
-
mrtinkertrainI can actually understand why Genoa would be real hesisitent to play Desales they'd get killed 9 times out of 10. However passing on Rogers? Now there is a winnable game against a solid d2 team that would help Genoa out alot. Contrary to bwcomets belief I dont think the comets would be a heavy favorite against Rogers. Rogers has a boatload of athletes that would keep the game interesting but imo genoa's discipline would eventually win them the game.

none. but i'd rather see genoa go and schedule someone worth while than some scrub school. nobody in the sll would ever go out and schedule the combo of Clyde and PH but hey whatever floats your boat -

Just shows that the member name doesn't fit the personality. Now you are picking opponents on whether you will have injuries? If USV thought that way, you would still be looking.......Is that all that really matters...10-0?????? -

Otsego schedules arguably the hardest schedule year in and year out in the whole SLL, even though they are far from successful right now. I'd favor Otsego's Evergreen, Hopewell Loudon, Anthony Wayne, Liberty Center over Eastwood's Clyde, Oak Harbor, Rossford, Patrick Henry any day in overall schedule strength. Not only that, but Otsego used to play Perrysburg, Bowling Green, and Defiance Tinora every year up until recently. They would also regularly beat all three of those teams. I know you wanted to criticize Genoa's scheduling, but you shouldn't try to take a shot at the SLL as a whole without doing a little homework. -
RocketsfanI see USV plays Danbury as well, another perennial powerhouse. At least it will be a nice road trip for the Comets.
-
bwcomet89Any news from schools like Elmwood, Woodmore, Gibsonburg, or Otsego? Hell, any posters from those schools on here?
-
shook_17dude listen to you haters. let the haters hate. Genoa will repeat again this year. But, i am worried about the playoffs, not to excited about bryer playing qb. I do love the running game combo tho cuveaus should tear it up this year
