So who are our 3 losses to? I would assume you are going to say St.C., HC, and Ferry correct?
I can understand how someone would pick those 3 games for us to lose, but you have to also think about this a little. IC was a much improved team last year than in years past. Yes we lost 4 games but remember how bad that flu hit us also. When we traveled to St.C. a few starting players didn't even attend the game due to sickness. We were down 21-7 at half time and battled back with our back up QB to tie it at 21 with just over a minute to go. St.C. had a fantastic kicker that won the game for them... If it had gone to overtime, St.C. would have been in trouble. Also St.C. scored on its very first play of the game when an IC corner slipped on the coverage. On top of everything, the first half we played very bad. A lot of things could have been different in that game.
Ferry just beat us to a pulp. Not only were more players sick, but we were honestly not ready for them. They rolled right over us.
The week of Harrison Central was the worst week for the players having the flu. Many didn't make the trip to Cadiz, but a lot of the players gutted it out and played while they were very sick. I believe practice that week was even cancelled once or twice due to the health of the players. Harrison beat up on a very sick IC team.
The IC team was very close to making the playoffs at 6-4 last year. One more win even if it was against a team that only had one win themselves would have pushed us in. Coach Connor and staff totally changed he way the IC football team prepares, practices, conditions, and performs. The kids saw how that propelled them from a 2-8 season to 6-4 even though they played sick half the year. It was enough for the players to buy into what the coaches are doing. It left the players hungry. Some of them decided not to play basketball or baseball so they could hit the weight room hard for this season. The players are again buying into the coaches and doing everything they need to do to get to the playoffs. Weir Replaces Big Red and should be a win for IC. St.C. is going to be a good team and should be one heck of a battle, but IC CAN beat them. HC is another team that is going to feel the effects of last years let down. That game could be a statement game. As far as Ferry goes, we play down there and thats never a good thing, but as long as we stay healthy this game could be the B8 game of the year...
IC isn't going to be a push-over this year. I am really looking forward to it. They have the ability to go 10-0... I hope they get as close to that goal as possible.
