CFNW Levy Passes!! Goodbye NBC, Hello Independent Schedule

  • Drums of War
It looks as if sports have been spared from the chopping block for the Northwest Indian Naton, but what does this new era as an independent have in store for us? I personally am looking forward to our NBC fairwell tour, but I must admit, I am a little worried about the years to come. Are there any possibilities of spots open in other leagues?

The ECOL is looking to expand, but Im guessing if the school district is low on money , trips to zanesville and steubenville will not fly

I personally think, the Portage Trail Metro Conference is the nearest conference that size and distance would be alright. Competition wise, Northwest would be a step above most the other schools in many sports.

Here are teams looking for games in 2011 according to the OHSAA website. I personally like Week 1 & 3 keeping some NBC match-ups going.

    Week 1 - Louisville
    Week 2 - Urbana
    Week 3 - Canton South
Week 4 - open (insert Canadian team here!)
Week 5 - open (insert another Canadian team here!)
Week 6 - open (by now you should know the song "Oh Canada" by heart!)
Week 7 - St. Vincent / St. Mary
Week 8 - open (one more Canadian team and we could claim to be a member of their conference!)
    Week 9 - East Liverpool
    Week 10 - Findlay

I love the idea of playing 2 NBC schools, Especially the Leps. I love the atmosphere @ their stadium, and what playing them does to the attituse of our team. It is always a great week, and a great game.

I wonder if there is a possibility of getting into that Herbstreet deal? Or is that only for elite DI schiools?

I guess we should pass out the music to Oh Canada to our band kids soon!

After looking at that conference, I think it would be a pretty nice fit. The question is, is anyone leaving that conference that already stands @ 8 teams?

Springfield would be a nice opponent due to their previous NBC association. Norton and Coventry would work well as natural geographic rivalries. We played Norton regularly way back when. Field has also recently been a part of our non league schedule.

If Crestwood, Southeast, Roosevelt, or Ravenna were to go away, I think we could fit in there quite nicely.

I read that even if the levy passed, it wouldnt necessarily guarantee a 10 game schedule in 2011.

I guess that's going to depend on openings in schedules.

I'd think weeks 1-4 will be easy to fill, but 5-10 will be tough since most in the area are in a league.

Good luck, see you in August and congrats on the levy.

I seen where Northwest is now trying to get back into the NBC. What's the odds of that happening?

Glad to here that Athletics has been spared. Congratulations and good luck in 2K10 to the NW Indians.

All that matters is that Northwest will be able to continue their Academics with their Athletics.... Congrats to the Indians, D3, R11 wouldn't be the same without ya :)

Anyone know how the team should look this coming year? Seems that things should only improve from here as the community has a renewed hope since the levy passed.

From my understanding, it will stay Pay to Play, but over the next couple years it looks as if this amount will actually go down.

Does it look like Nick Riley is the heir apparent at QB? Anyone else in that mix?

Have we lost much to transfer? I know we lost some in the Jr. High and below...but not sure at the HS level. Any talent leave?

We have some key positions to fill, but as long as some main talent didn't leave, we should be able to fill those holes.

    What are everyone's thoughts?

I really don't know much about the team or individual players. I do know that it is important to them and the community that they take the field every fall. I can not express the relief that we are not facing the end of NW atheletics. Now, if we could only find someone to play in 2011.
  • NWIndianNation01
Who all is in the Portage Trail Metro Conference?
  • NWIndianNation01
    Just found it...

    1. Kent Roosevelt

    2. Field

    3. Ravenna

    4. Southeast

    5. Norton

    6. Crestwood

    7. Springfield

    8. Coventry

Eh...no thanks! Not many points in there in my opinion.
  • Drums of War
How many points do you get for playing a Canadian team or having a bye week due to no opponent?
  • NWIndianNation01
From my understanding you get good points from Canadian and DC teams!

Just about every Canadian team that visits Ohio is the equivalent of Div. I. They are worth a lot of computer points.
  • fb167
Both a bye and a Canadian team can be beneficial. If you have a bye your divisor goes from 100 to 90 at the end of the season. (example: If you have 102 2nd level pts with 100 divisor gives you a 1.02 pt level. If you have 102 2nd level pts with a 90 divisor gives you a 1.13; sometimes that tenth can be the difference.

The benefit to a Canadian team as already mentioned they carry the weight of a division I team.

Is Whiting still going to be the head coach? I had heard he had applied at Perry and I wasn't sure if there were other schools too. Congrats on the levy, it's a shame the state puts school districts in that position.

I had heard that also, but up to this date there has been not news of his departure or plans for new coach. While I do not like the man personally, he is most likely one of the best HS football coaches in the state.

Whiting didn't get the Perry job. Not sure if he applied else where, but it seems he is staying.

NW passes a levy for the 1st time in 7 years and the first thing you are suggesting is they jump ship and go independant? Do you even have a clue? It is no wonder you cant pass a school levy up there in hilljack country!! Are you that frustrated at losing to Louisville every year?

You do realize they withdrew from the NBC BEFORE the levy passed in anticipation of a discontinuation of sports, right?

You just talk, but you never seem to have a clue about anything.

Ummmm...Northwest is already Independent, so nobody is 'suggesting' they jump ship and do it. They already are.
