Cavs fans, on a scale from 1-10, how much does Mikhail Prokhorov scare you?

  • Sage
    In case you missed it...

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/03/25/60minutes/main6333015.shtml

He's basically a 6'6" Russian billionaire who bangs hot chicks, owns a cache of automatic special force weapons, kick-boxes, and just general #doesthedamnthing on a regular basis.

He's going to appeal to every single NBA player in the league, with the exception of the guys who wear white skin and don't totally appreciate bad assery.

As Marc Stein pointed out, LeBron is going to have to at least listen to him, isn't he?

With the moving of them to Brooklyn, Jay-Z owning the team, the Russians money, the potential of landing Jon Wall/Evan Turner, AND being able to hire damn near any coach in the league after this year---just how scared of this man are you?

    Not very.

I think he is staying, but if he leaves, I will be a Cavs fan just like I was before he got here.

    Doesn't scare me at all.

I think some forget that Dan Gilbert is also a billionaire. From Gilberts profile:
Plays pickup basketball, attempting to break Michigan's steroid-free bench-press weightlifting record. Recently bought $32 million stake in Eprize.com, which runs online promotions for clients like Coca-Cola and Disney.
    That's boss status.

The big factor is the relationship between Lebron and Gilbert. I know they attend business seminars and all that good shit together, and Gilbert is the guy who introduced Lebron to Warren Buffet.

Lebron isn't going anywhere. Though, like Wes, if he does, I'll still be a Cavs fan just like I was pre-2003...

    Not worried at all actually.

With coin being taken from either/any being equal, I'd have to think that the next item on LBJ's priority list would be "what's being done to provide me with a supporting cast". In this regard it's hard to argue tha Cavs/Gilbert/Ferry have done at least as well and certainly BETTER than most of the league have or would have been willing to do. So he stays.

All the other "fluff" associated with guy is fine and all, but none of it has anything to do with winning championships. A track record would be needed to evaluate a commitment to it and there isn't one.

Apparently you don't know how Russians roll when they buy sports teams.

    (SEE: Soccer, Chelsea)
  • Cleveland Buck
I fully expect LeBron to leave because this is Cleveland and that is just what happens here, but I don't necessarily think the Russian owner will have a huge impact on it. Like was said earlier, Gilbert has enough money for all of the whores and dope LeBron could ever want, in fact, so does LeBron. I think he'll go to the Nets because they have better young players than the Knicks, and I think he is stupid enough to think that he needs the New York market to be a global icon.

I watched the segment on him earlier on 60 Minutes. He seems like a cool dude. But if I were a Cavs fan I wouldn't be worried.....yet.

#DanGilbert says he ain't got shit on me in his best #DenzelWashington voice.

Not worried at all. And BTW, unless you're just a casual NBA fan, you knew all this about this guy months ago--and it didn't change my mind on the subject then. Not going to just because he was on 60 Minutes.

Oh God, I'm surprised this doesn't have conspiracy theorists going absolutely nuts. :D

I don't know the specific finances, but Gilberts wealth is in a different category than the Russians wealth.

Lebon hasn't resigned with the Cavs, because he wants to explore. That alone scares me.

sounds like a total bad as...

Not sure what he'll be able to do as an NBA owner though
  • Nate
    Not scared at all.

    10.

But he's still not getting Lebron.
  • just_a_swimmer
    He doesn't.

Nah this was the right thread. I actually watched the video about him that was posted... He definitely seems like he is going to make the NBA more interesting. His management "techniques" if you can say that are what I am interested in watching. (ex: He doesn't use a computer)
  • just_a_swimmer
ah, thought maybe you thought you were on the josh cribbs thread. your response seemed to fit.

    Yay Chelsea.

Are you saying that this guy is going to bring in a bunch of Russian talent? Because that's what happened to Chelski.
  • SQ_Crazies
Yeah, if it's anything like Chelsea then the Nets fans should be happy. To go from shit to the 2nd best team in the league must be exciting!
  • I Wear Pants
Except Chelsea is the best team in the league.
  • SQ_Crazies
    How'd they finish last year?

    Season ain't over either.
  • SQ_Crazies
And he bought them in 2003. Took them this long to rise to the top..scary...
  • devil1197
Except Chelsea is behind ManU at the moment.

ManU is the best team still in EPL and will continue to be the best.
