Weekend boxing 3/27
-
Hulk SmashLot's of boxing this weekend.
The fight I'm the most pumped for is Arthur Abraham vs Andre Dirrell because I will be at Joe Louis Arena to see the fight.
Abraham is a beast and I'm not expecting Dirrell to beat him but I'm rooting for the upset. Froch is tough as nails too and a lot of people thought Dirrell should have got that decision(I was not one of those people) maybe he can sneak past Abraham. We're going to go at 7:30 and catch all the preliminary fights too.
HBO actually has better fights on tap this weekend imo.
Marcos Maidana(27-1) vs Victor Cayo(24-0)
Ali Funeka (30-2-3) vs Joan Guzman(29-0-1)
The 140 lb range is loaded right now with a ton of potentially awesome fights out there and the way HBO is lining up guys in that weight range I think we're going to get to see a lot of those fights.
When Funeka beats Guzman again I hope judges that actually watched the fight are the ones handing in scorecards.
Oscar De La Hoya's Fight Night Club is on FSN tonight.
Not going to see any stars on that series just young guys on the way up(read Oscar getting his fighters tv exposure)
Here is the line up:

In Japan Koki Kameda(22-0) takes on Pongsaklek Wongjongkam(74-3-1) in a huge fight over there(all of the Kameda's fights are big there)
I hope I can find that one on the net aftewards.
Check out Randall Bailey going to Belgium and splattering one of their popular fighters Jackson Osei Bonsu last week. It happens at about 1:30 of the video.

Nonsome good fights on both HBO and Showtime beginning soon
-
YtowngirlinflaOh I wish I had HBO and Showtime. I get free cable so I can't complain, but I miss boxing cause no bars around here show anything but UFC.
-
killer_ewokThe "BACK" button on my remote will get a workout now as I'll be switching back and forth between HBO and Showtime.
-
killer_ewokAbraham-Dirrell was pretty damn entertaining. And controversial. Wow. Security is in the ring right now.
-
Nonoh my gosh
Abraham hits Dirrell with an illegal punch while Dirrell was on his knees
Dirrell badly hurt
Abraham disqualified -
NonDirrell slipped down and his legs were bent awkwardly
Abraham delivers a huge illegal punch
lucky it didn't cause a riot in Detroit -
NonDirrell was well ahead, fought beautifully for most of the fight
Abraham was actually coming on and had a chance at a knockout in the 11th and 12th
started to land some power shots -
killer_ewokI thought we were gonna have an entourage/corner brawl on our hands.
-
Nonrough night for Abraham in Detroit
he was down for the first time and suffers his first loss -
NonDirrell has a concussion
-
Nonhe doesn't even know
he thinks he lost the fight
unbelievable -
killer_ewokHe doesn't know that he won the fight. He has no clue right now. That's scary.
-
NonGray was ready to interview him
and Dirrell was in tears thinking he got knocked out -
killer_ewokDirrell is in bad shape.
-
killer_ewok"Man, I got dropped!"
"No, you won the fight!"
Crazy. -
killer_ewokAbraham said he is a good actor. Wow. That's fucked up.
-
NonI was surprised.
I knew Dirrell would be athletic and box well but he traded with some power.
He landed through the gloves and cut Abraham up.
Very determined performance.
Unfortunate it had to end that way for both fighters because Abraham still had a shot to actually get a knockout. -
NonI'm not a doctor but just the way he looked after getting up, you have to think there is still major concern.
There have been many situations where fighters leave the ring and later it's discovered there is brain trauma, bleeding, etc. -
NonMaidana KOs Cayo in the 6th
brutal body shot, perfectly placed
earlier, Guzman defeated Funeka by split decision
could've been unanimous
not a very entertaining fight
Guzman weighed in nine pounds over the 135-pound mark and therefore was not able to win the title
He started fast, scored a knockdown midway through the fight and then finished with much more energy and ring generalship -
NonI thought the crowd was great in Detroit.
Fights are always a little better when there is a steady buzz, maybe even some hostility towards one of the fighters.
This was an easy scenario with Dirrell being from Flint and Abraham coming over from Europe, but it still seemed like a solid case for more big fights in Detroit. -
Hulk SmashCrowd was great at Joe Louis Arena.
Abraham brings electricity to the ring with him. Everyone around us knew about him and most were picking Abraham to win by brutal KO. Arthur brought quite a few Germans across the pond with him, way more Dirrell fans there but there were enough Germans to make a lot of noise.
Every time he let his hands go the crowd was reacting, screaming at Dirrell to get out of there.
Arena erupted when Dirrell dropped him, it was great.
There wasn't an announcement that Abraham had been disqualified for a long time, people all around where I was sitting thought that Abraham had won by KO even though he clearly hit Dirrell when he was down.
A lot of people around us thought they heard the punch connect and we were sitting in the top row of the lower bowl.(which gave us a great view).
Dirrell gave Abraham a boxing lesson for most of the fight, easily the best performance I've seen from him.
At the outset of the tournament Kessler and Abraham were the favorites and now they've both been given a boxing lesson by Americans. -
khujo
Guzman is an embarrasment to the sport. Nine pounds over the limit is ridiculous. As well as just a few years ago he dropped out against Campbell hours before the fight, even though he knew he wasn't able to fight all that week.Non wrote:

I hope he gets what he's asking for and Maidana knocks him out. -
NonFuneka didn't have a very good showing after some strong performances in his previous fights.
I thought that was a lackluster fight. -
Hulk SmashFuneka can't seem to catch a break when he crosses the ocean for a fight.
I don't think Campbell gave an honest effort at making weight when he fought him either. I like watching his fights though and I hope HBO brings him back for another fight.
Guzman/Maidana would be good I haven't seen Maidana face an opponent that won't stand in front of him yet.
I hope Ward/Dirrell lands at Joe Louis Arena too.
Ward's first two fights in the Super Six have been in his hometown, it's his turn to travel.
