Really? When does being a team player have to do with playing a sorry team?SQ_Crazies wrote: AI gets too much shit for not being a team player without people realizing that he never got to play with anyone good when he was good.
LeBron has done well with some sorry ass squads himself. You know why? Becuase he was NEVER selfish.
AI still has the selfish attitude. Not wanting to accept his role in Detroit, Memphis, or Philly.. He can't come to realization that he was nothing more than a 6th man/bench player at that point.
He had a great situation in Denver and could never get it done. Chauncey comes in and Denver suddenly rises to the 2nd best in the West. AI still had some good years left in him while in Denver.
I'm not saying the guy HAD to win championships, that was NEVER said in my post. I jsut labeled him as a selfish player. And he was. -
SQ_CraziesI'm not saying he wasn't a bit selfish--but he backed it up in Philly and never had shit around him. He was never going to be a good fit in Denver and he DID NOT have that much good basketball left in him when he went there. He beat himself up in Philly.

He was averaging 31 PPG in the 15 games before he was traded to Denver. While in Denver he averaged 25 PPG that season..SQ_Crazies wrote: I'm not saying he wasn't a bit selfish--but he backed it up in Philly and never had shit around him. The season after that, he averaged 26 PPG for Denver.. Also shot above 45% both seasons..
I'd say thats good basketball, and you would too...
However, his scoring and FG% dipped both seasons during the playoffs.
Denver saw him for who he was, and traded him for Chauncey, somebody who is in the same age bracket, not AS skilled, but is a proven winner and team player. Most importantly, Billups is a true leader. -
SQ_CraziesMy point exactly. Then he fell off entirely--he didn't have that many years of good basketball left in him. That's what I said right? I don't believe I said he didn't have any. And he wasn't a good fit there--that is exactly my point. They needed the leader like Billups. They didn't need the 20 shot per game scorer, thats why you have Melo. It's not as if they were a bad team with AI.

SQ_CraziesI think LeBron is in your head too much. Not every great scorer is the leader of the team. And Billups is a true PG. Iverson was never a PG, when he played there he was always out of position.

Hb31187lol thus far AI has actually done MORE with a sorry team than LBJ did with his. He took his sorry team tot he finals, but won 1 game . Not bad for a selfish guy eh?
