Crosby vs. Ovechkin.......Part 3 Tonight
-
rock_knutneThe Penguins travel to Washington to take on the league leading Caps. The third installment of the Sid/Ovie rivalry takes center stage as this game will be televised on the NHL Network (free preview). They are tied for the league lead in goals.
This game means a lot more to Pittsburgh than it does to Washington, the Pens need a win to take the division lead over NJ. Pittsburgh should come out flying as winning the Atlantic division would mean avoiding both NJ and Washington in the playoffs. -

brutus161I hate when these two are compared. Ovechkin is a more complete player. They may be tied in goals, but the big difference in stats is the +/- Crosby is +7, Ovechkin is +42. That is huge.
-
rock_knutneOvechkin is the more complete player? He's selfish, hardly ever back checks, plays zero defense and doesn't kill penalties, Crosby does all that. Plus Crosby has developed in to one of the better faceoff guys in the league. As for the plus/minus rating, you can throw it in the trash, it's not the tell all of a great hockey player.

Of course you feel that way, you're a Pens fan. I personally dislike both players, but if I had to choose, I would take Ovy to be on the Devils.rock_knutne wrote: Ovechkin is the more complete player? BTW, I would choose Malkin over Crosby -

Yeah, I might be biased but you can't tell me that Ovechkin is a better "all around" hockey player, that's crazy. Don't get me wrong, Ovechkin is a great player and scorer, one of the best shots ever but all around play, it's not even close.......Crosby does it all.brutus161 wrote:

Ok, maybe it's just because I really don't like Crosby.rock_knutne wrote:

End of LineYeah OV is the more complete player
I bet he doesn't even know what to do on a back check. -

That comment is very strange to me, because IMO Crosby is the more complete player.brutus161 wrote: I hate when these two are compared. Ovechkin is a more complete player. They may be tied in goals, but the big difference in stats is the +/- Crosby is +7, Ovechkin is +42. That is huge.
I'm a Pens fan, but honestly this is unbiased. Ovi is definitely the better scorer, but he doesn't have the vision like Crosby or the passing skills, and the back checking was already mentioned. But I do believe his overall game is improving.
If I could choose I'd still take Ovechkin though. Hes the type of player you go pay to see play. Hes a fucking maniac. Crosby is like Lemiuex, more of the finesse game. Ovi....like I said...maniac! -
rock_knutneCaps win 4-3 in a shoot out. Although they got a point, it's still a discouraging loss for the Pens. They played so well with out Malkin and Gonchar, defense was sound! Have to blame Fleury in the shoot out, he basically gambled twice by trying to poke check Ovechkin and Semin on their penalty shots.
Pittsburgh really needs to get the entire team together and healthy. Malkin needs more time with Ponikarovsky(sp?), Crosby needs to be reunited with Guerin and Kunitz and Kennedy needs to go back on the third line with Staal and Cooke. I understand what Bylsma is trying to do but the Pens seemed to play better with the old line combinations. I also think Talbot, Adams and DuPuis would be a killer fourth line with Mike Rupp waiting in the wings. Any way you slice it up, they need to play a little more desperate even if they are in good position for the playoffs. I would like to think they can flip a switch and kick it in to another gear but that's easier said than done. -
HereticYeah...last year was this perfect storm where after making the coaching change to Bylsma, they went red hot and never cooled off. Then entered the playoffs as probably the hottest team and that propelled them to the Cup.
Momentum can at times be the defining factor in the NHL. I really don't like how they're spinning their wheels right now. -
End of LineIdk what to think of this right now, Malkin and Poni don't seem to be clicking with Fedotenko on the line. Btw Feds is just sucking like Satan did last year. I'd like to see this.
Kunitz-Crosby-Guerin
Poni-Malkin-Dupuis
Cooke-Staal-Kennedy
Rupp-Adams-Talbot
Orpik-Letang
Leopold-Gonchar
Eaton-Gogo -
rock_knutne^^^^^I'd keep Malkin together with Fedotenko and Ponikarovsky, they haven't had that much time together and IMO, that line has the potential to not only produce points but punish teams physically too. Fedotenko also has a knack for scoring huge playoff goals, I can't see Bylsma sitting him, too much experience. Remember last year when they brought Kunitz in to play with Crosby, it was like two weeks before they actually played together and that worked out well. As good as Dupuis is playing, he has to go back to the fourth line with Talbot and Adams, keep Rupp out and bring him in for who ever isn't playing well. Although, I like Rupp's physical prescence, he can fight and is also a good player which is nice to have in the playoffs. The player selection dilemma is a nice problem to have but it won't matter if they don't start playing desperate hockey.
-
capninsanoI like Ovechkin better than Crosby, but Crosby is easily the better all round player for the reasons mentioned before. If I had the first pick in an NHL draft, Crosby would be my first pick. He makes everyone else around him a lot better than Ovechkin does.

se-alumOvechkin showed last night why he is > Crosby.

End of Line
Why? Did OV play defense? Out of the SO goals between the two, Sid's was much nastier.se-alum wrote: Ovechkin showed last night why he is > Crosby.
Rock, Feds needs to be sat he just plain sucks right now. -
se-alumHonestly, I could name maybe 5 hockey players. I'm just messin' with you guys!!
