  There is someone sitting there from a pissant school that Holmgren really likes and who's probably so far under the radar Mel Kiper doesn't know who the hell he is. Now whether he turns out to be a QB of the future...eh..but Holmgren knows how to coach up QBs and if Delhomme is a good mentor you never can tell.
  
  That said, as a fan of my team, I hope to god that Cleveland butchers yet another draft but with Holmgren in charge now I don't like the fact they probably won't for a next couple of years.

  Again...drafting a QB this year DOESN'T mean they will play ala Aikman, Manning, etc. Guys like Flacco & Roethlisberger were thrown into the fire when they had their starters (Maddox & Troy Smith) go down with injury/illness. The plan for a rookie in Cleveland would be to have them sit and watch while Delhomme takes the reigns.
  
  If not now, when? What QB is in the draft NEXT year that people would prefer? And don't say Locker because he'll be drafted, probably, top 5 and we won't be picking top 5.

  I agree with going defense in the first round, I am not a fan of Bradford or Clausen. I wouldn't draft a qb until the 3rd round. I don't know whow will be available then, maybe Jevan Snead. I know he has his issues, but could be that Farve type qb Holmgren could mold into a winner.

  What was the record of the Pittspuke Steelers when they drafted Bradshaw #1 in 1970? Let me help you, iy was 1-13, do you think they needed help in other positions? And in Bradshaw's case, he was a risky proposition in that he played ball at Louisiana Tech.
  
  You compare this situation with that of Tim Couch. As bad as the Browns are, they are nowhere near the level of putridocraty as the expansion team was. And as a sidenote, Couch was a complete flop anyhow. Wouldn't have mattered who drafted him. He never caught on with any other team.
  
  You can't win without a good quarterback. Period. And in most cases, it takes a quarterback a couple of years to learn the NFL. the Mannings, Brees, Bradshaw, Favre and yes, even Tom Brady....all stunk their freshmen season.

  You cited two whopping examples, hell their are two examples of 1st round QB's just with the Cleveland team since coming back that didn't pan out simply because there was no great talent around them. Now, if we draft a QB and groom him without throwing him to the wolves then I'd be okay with that.
  
  But in our division you are not going to take any QB in this draft, put them at starter and expect them to be effective against the defenses of Pitt, Balt, and Cincinnati 6 times a year. I just do not want to see another promising QB ruined simply because he played too early and was shorthanded with talent on both sides of the football.

  Again, I don't think Holmgren will throw a QB to the wolves and I highly doubt he uses our 1st rounder on a QB. I don't think he's that stupid and I don't think he'd knuckle under to fan pressure like Policy & Savage/Crennel did. Second round I could see them picking a QB though.

  If you look at Holmgren's draft history it wouldn't surprise me to see him draft a later round QB the next 3-5 years EVERY year. He has made comments about this before. Kind of the "never know when you're going to find a late round 'Tom Brady' approach.

  I think everyone "dances" somewhat at this time of year. If he says "we're not taking 'so and so'' every year, teams will start snatching players that they THINK he will take by leapfrogging us in the draft. Has to be some smokescreen.

  I imagine his comment about not dancing much meant one of two things....he doesnt believe in doing any physical activities himself, or he meant it as he doesnt dance around the subject to his players, coaches and such and tells em like it is.

  Read BR's reply...he sums it up really well. Would love to have Ndomican Suh, Eric Berry, and a top notch qb. But you can't have everything. Until this team finds a quarterback, there is no playoffs in the future.
  
  Yes, it will take a year in dealing with a freshman's mistakes. Look at the Jets, or even the Lions. It most often takes a full year to learn. There have been exceptions. Roethlesberger was picked in the lowest part of the first round, and he won his first year. But Bradford and McCoy are both rated higher than what Roethlesberger was rated at the same stage.
  
  Eventually, you have to find a quality qb...the longer you wait, the longer the franchise will suffer.

  I wouldn't draft a QB and throw him out there immediately like with Aikman, Manning, etc. Roethlisberger, Flacco and even Sanchez walked into the perfect storm...top 5 defenses and brutal rushing attacks. They could afford to be "game managers" their rookie year. We don't have the luxury of that defense although our rushing attack should be very good.

  You would think so but there will be a lot of changes personnel wise and it's yet to be proven. I doubt the Browns D goes from 32nd to top 5 during the off-season.

  dont ya think the rushing attack will help the browns defense?

  It could but if that secondary doesn't get fixed the opposition could have very short/quick strike drives.

  We are drafting a QB this draft, there is no doubt about it. The question is what round...
  
  In fact, based on Holmgren's word and record, we will be drafting a qb pretty much every year during his tenure...
