Question to Pittsburgh pro sports fans

  • NOL fan
How many of you are also Pitt Panthers fans? And I don't mean you if generally root for them, I mean if they are your absolute #1 favorite team in the major college sports

This is mainly directed at the Eastern Ohio people who are fans of the Pittsburgh pro teams because they are closer. I'm curious how many use this same "proximity" issue to determine their favorite college team as well.

And I guess I should pose the same question about WVU, for any of you south of I-70 who may have Pittsburgh as the closest pro city but Morgantown as the closest major college city

Better question: how many of you actually have worn Pirates gear (outside of a game) in the last five years? Ten years?

Panthers absolutely rock. Whereby the Steelers blow. Panthers are my second favorite college team behind the Buckeyes. But then again, I'm a Pitt graduate.

I think that native born Ohioans that overtly root for the Steelers should be removed from society.

Okay, the world is ending soon because we agree.

Putting them all down would be the right thing to do.

I live in eastern Ohio, within a hour of the border with Pennsylvania. I know tons of Steelers fans, literally I would say half of the people I know are Steelers fans (with the other half being divided equally between the Browns and Bengals). I have never met a Pirates fan. True story.

I have a Pirates hat on right now. As for Pitt college sports....I've always followed them, but I wouldn't call myself a rabid fan. I used to go to Pitt bball games all the time when I was younger.

I've been Steelers, Pens, Buckos my entire life!!

I cheer for all of the Pittsburgh pro sports teams and always have. I've never been a Pitt fan and frankly the last 15 years would've been less embarrassing if I was a Pitt football fan as opposed to being a Notre Dame football fan.

Here is the best question(s) that has been asked on this thread yet:

Who are any of you to tell people they should or shouldn't be a fan of a team? And why the hell would you even care?

I'd like you to say that to my 73 year old grandfather who graduated highschool with Maz. You would get drilled.

Back in the day those flat top black hats with the gold stripes going around them that the Pirates wore (think Parker, Stargell days) were sweet. Actually owned one because my high school's colors were black & gold and we were the "Pirates."

You're the one who said Ohio fans of Pitts should be "put down"? Now that is low.

I'm a fan of the Steelers, Pirates, Penguins and Pitt football and basketball.

The only thing that conflicts my all-Pittsburgh theme is I like Ohio State. I wasn't as big of an OSU fan as a kid, like I was Pittsburgh teams, but over time following the recruiting, going to games, Tressel going there, living in Columbus for awhile, that combination led me to root for them, too.

Everybody has their reasons for who they cheer for and one person's isn't any better than the next.

How about I lend you a dollar so you can buy yourself a sense of humor? I'm guessing a dollar goes a little further for inbreds these days.

I can't support that...great hats, but they beat Earl Weaver's Orioles. And if there's one manager I love to the same extent as Whitey Herzog, it's Earl Weaver.

(This is NOT safe for work or young ears)
