Cincinnati Bengals Off-season talk

  • chs_redskins
Havent seen a bengals off season thread on here so i will start it.

    Who will we draft?
    What do we need?
    Who will we sign?
  • chs_redskins
The Bengals sign WR Antonio Bryant. I think we will still have room for Terrell Owens. The thought of having Ochocinco, Owens, and Bryant is scary.

I doubt Chad and TO can co-exist.

That is what they said about him and Mcnabb.

    From PFT:

"If the decision of the Bengals to sign receiver Antonio Bryant to a four-year, $28 million left any doubt regarding the potential pursuit of T.O., there should now be none.

Owens made it clear on his Twitter page that he won't be a Bengal.

"I'm en route back to LA imagining what we could have done together," Owens says in a message directed at receiver Chad Ochocinco. "You talk about unstoppable!"

Owens also thanked owner Mike Brown and the team's coaching staff for the visit and "the possible opportunity" to play with Carson Palmer and Ochocinco."

Looks like the Bengals will go into the year with a WR corp of Chad Ochocinco, Antonio Bryant, Andre Caldwell, Matt Jones, Maurice Purify, Quan Cosby and Jerome Simpson.

TO is being really polite because he realizes that teams aren't lining up to sign him.His antics finally caught up with him.

I'd say it's less about his antics and more about his production and his age.

If he was still watch 100 balls for 1400 yards and 14 TD's. Teams would still be lining up to bring him on board. He's 36, it's not like we're talking about T.O. from 10 years ago.

I will say this about T.O. The guy might be 36, but he's in fantastic shape and can still play in this league. The key for him is going to be finding a situation that keeps him happy. He pretty much quit in Buffalo after being in their offense and watching Trent Edwards go down, just as the Bills' season went down.

Put him in a good situation and I think he's still a productive player, even at his age.

I've been doing alot of thinking on this and want to get some feedback. Is it to early to call Carson Palmer one of worst draft disappointments of alltime? I mean the guy was picked #1 overall in 03 and has never even won a playoff game yet. This with having one of the greatest receivers of alltime''just ask him'' Chad Stinko on the team. I'm leaning towards the bust side.
  • Pick6
Cant be a bust...he would have beaten the steelers in the playoffs. But they had to resort to their same-old classless selves and cheap shot him.

Why don't you go on your steelers thread, and talk about the disgrace that is your QB like normal fans would

All kidding aside, according to the City of Pittsburgh's public safety manual, the police, fire, and ems use the codeword KIMO when describing a car accident.

Nope. Not even in the top 50.

Just ignore Al Capone, the dude gets off to tweaking non-Pittsburgh fans. It is kind of weird actually. As I said before, it is obvious that he isn't serious. If he is, he is the least informed football "fan" out there

    Back to the topic

Who will we draft? Mays or Gresham
What do we need? Safety, TE, OL
  • jordo212000
If Gresham is available I would like to see them pick him. If he is gone, pick best player available at that point. It is kind of pointless to try and pick who the Bengals will end up drafting. They are pretty far back. There are so many variables
  • RiverRat13
Taylor Mays has been getting some serious knocks on his coverage ability, hasn't he? I'm afraid he is one of those big hitters that fans love but isn't nearly as productive as his reputation.

If Gresham is healthy, I would like to see the Bengals take him. They either need Gresham in the first or take a WR and TE in the 2nd and 3rd. My thinking is that Gresham would be a good enough threat that the Bengals wouldn't need another WR until late in the draft. But if they go defense or O-line in the 1st, then whatever TE they get would not be enough of a playmaker to ignore getting one more WR. I don't think Chad, Bryant, Caldwell and Matt Jones is enough.

As for other options, Lupati would take the O-line from pretty good to really good. And I still think if Dez Bryant falls to #21 that the Bengals have to take him, even over Gresham. Overall, the Bengals are probably in good enough shape to take the proverbial best player available.
  • Lovejoy1984
Don't see Dez Bryant falling that far. He'll probably go in the Top 10. But if he's there at 21 you're right, they have to take him, as at that point it's a very low risk/high reward type situation.
  • jordo212000
The WR position seems pretty full now. You have 85, Bryant, Jones, Caldwell, Simpson, etc. I don't see the Bengals taking a WR in the first few rounds now b/c of that. Probably a TE, a safety, or a lineman of some kind

You can't possibly count on Matt Jones and Jerome Simpson. Jones didn't play in '09 and let's be honest, he's been pretty much a bust even without the off-the-field problems. Jerome Simpson couldn't get activated on a team with one of the worst passing attacks in the NFL. It would be great if either contributed, but I will be highly disappointed if the Bengals don't pick up another WR.
  • jordo212000
No you might not be able to count on Jones... but at best he will be the 4th WR. I think you are forgetting that they have Caldwell on their team too. The Bengals rarely go 4 wide. Thus the 4th WR isn't important. That isn't to say that they won't pick up another WR, I just don't think it will be very early in the draft. That's just my $0.02
  • Pick6
I think Cosby may be able to contribute.
