DAYTONA BEACH -- It took seven years, but Michael Jordan's persistence paid off, as his rider Jake Zemke took the basketball legend's race team to Victory Lane at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday.
Zemke, riding Jordan's No. 54 Suzuki, captured the 15-lap SuperBike feature over the 2.9-mile road course.
As the lead pack exited the chicane, the three riders behind Zemke started to battle for position and lost the draft from Zemke's machine.
"When I saw the white flag, I said to myself, 'This is not the place to be -- leading at Daytona,' " Zemke said. "Then I started thinking I could win this thing from the front."
The leader usually gets passed by a drafter off turn 4 on the last lap.
