ESPN Insider: Lebron could end up a Laker
-
Lovejoy1984
Gotta love ESPN. I honestly wish I had the connections to get a rumor started. We told you last week that Phil Jackson's future -- whether he re-ups with L.A. this summer or heads elsewhere -- could have an effect on whether or not Kobe Bryant gets out of his contract and tests the free-agent waters this summer.
We also noted that if Jackson were to stay in L.A. but instead coach the Clippers -- a team that will be looking for a new coach next season -- it could be enough to convince LeBron James to come play the 3 for the Clips.
But what about if Jackson were to stay with the Lakers? LeBron couldn't possibly go there, could he?
Well, maybe.
According to Roland Lazenby of HoopsHype, James "is quietly making overtures to the Los Angeles Lakers. He wants to play for them. And James is not all that concerned whether Kobe Bryant is part of the equation."
Lazenby also notes: "Mainly, he wants to wear a championship ring, which means he wants to play for Lakers coach Phil Jackson."
Lazenby also cites a source that says Jackson loves LeBron.
Obviously, there are several complicating factors here: to bring on James, the Lakers would have to free up a good chunk of their payroll, and one would assume Kobe would need to sign off on such a potential move. That is, of course, if he opts to stay with the team beyond this year. But some sort of a sign-and-trade isn't out of the realm of possibility here.
Yet, if LeBron wants to play for Jackson, and Jackson apparently loves LeBron, the Lakers aren't the only team they could team up on.
We already mentioned the Clippers. But the Nets are looking for a new coach and are hoping to make a big-name splash, Vinny Del Negro's job in Chicago still isn't rock solid and the Knicks could also unload Mike D'Antoni in favor of Jackson, if they knew it meant landing James.
"Lebron wants to play with the Raptors, loves the international vibe of the city and wants to bring Red Auerbach out of retirement(read: death) to be his coach."
No doubt they would run this story on the front page of ESPN insider. -
se-alumThat's rich.
-
SageLazenby is pretty legit though. He's got a book on Jerry West coming out.
Is it so preposterous to think LeBron James would want to play for the most successful franchise in the NBA and play directly under the most successful coach in NBA history? -
wildcats20LOL at this.
While having Bron and Kobe on the same team would guarantee a ring, I would rather it not happen.
When both players are done and retired they will go down as 2 of the best players to ever play the game. I would rather them battle AGAINST each other than play with each other.
And it won't happen, Bron is not leaving Cleveland. -

LOL...please...lol...omg these dudes will stop at nothing."Mainly, he wants to wear a championship ring, which means he wants to play for Lakers coach Phil Jackson." -
Benny The JetSo far they have him going to the Lakers, Clippers, Nets, Knicks, Miami, Cavs...can't they just let it play out and wait til free agency starts and talk about the season now instead of making these wild speculations all the time?

The Heat and Miami eh??Benny The Jet wrote: So far they have him going to the Lakers, Clippers, Heat, Nets, Knicks, Miami, Cavs...can't they just let it play out and wait til free agency starts and talk about the season now instead of making these wild speculations all the time? -
Benny The JetHaha damn you...nice catch.
-
Lovejoy1984You forgot the Thunder, which would be the best team to go too if he was looking to win a ring.(IF he left Cleveland).
The Thunder are so young, that all of their stars are still under rookie deals. They could get Lebron, and roll out a starting 5 of.
Kristic
Jeff Green
Durant
LeBron
Westbrook
Harden
Mullens
Collison -
devil1197Haha.
The media is so desperate for FA news they make shit up nowadays. They know LeBron is staying in Cleveland. -
wes_mantoothlol...No way could Kobe and Lebron coexist.
-
Eric TaylorPut LeBron in LA with Kobe and the team they have and you would have the best team in NBA history.
Phil Jackson will have a major role in what happens this year via FA -

Didn't they say the same thing when they put together that Lakers team with Kobe, Shaq, Payton, and Malone? That didn't turn out so hot.Eric Taylor wrote: Put LeBron in LA with Kobe and the team they have and you would have the best team in NBA history.
Would it be a great team? Yes. Greatest ever? Probably not, especially if you still have Derek Fisher running point. -
ZombieKillerThis is from ESPN. They are all up on the Laker's nuts. Of course they would do a story saying this.

There would be a huge difference between the Kobe/LeBron Lakers and the Shaq/Kobe/Glove/Malone Lakers.
This team has no egos and all the BS, winning is all that matters. And IF (which it won't EVER) LeBron went to the Lakers, I'd go with this lineup..
PG- Kobe Bryant
SG- Ron Artest
SF- LeBron James
PF- Pau Gasol
C- Andrew Bynum -
ytownfootballThat's what I miss the most about being 13...wet dreams

It would almost have to be a sign and trade, and almost 100% certain Bynum and/or Odom would probably get moved, but this is all a pipe dream anywayTrueblue23 wrote:

2quik4uIt would be interesting to see Lebron play in a offense where he doesn't have to dominate the ball the whole time.

I know as a Laker fan you don't want to hear this but LeBron would be getting the ball wherever he went, he's too damn good not too really.2quik4u wrote: It would be interesting to see Lebron play in a offense where he doesn't have to dominate the ball the whole time. -

umm no he wouldnt have to hold onto the ball for 15 seconds then drive then kick the ball out every playytownfootball wrote:

ytownfootballIf that's the play he calls he would. I know what you're saying, and there has been a lot less of that recently. He is given the reigns on some of those too. Point taken, but most of that seems to be history at this point.

SQ_CraziesIf you don't think LeBron and Kobe would coexist well you're nuts. Phil would have an orgasm the day he heard they got LeBron. Kobe, LeBron and Gasol in the triangle would be the most unstoppable team in NBA history. LeBron is a dream player for the triangle. He's like Scottie Pippen with Jordan's numbers--better actually.
