Plus, I'm pretty sure you don't get your name engraved on the Lombardi Trophy.
As I thought. Strictly the opinion of hockey fans. No factual data.

Stanley Cup originate in the late 1800's. Lor Stanley purchased a "bowl" to be given out to the champion of the league. He never saw a Stanley Cup game to my knowledge. It originally was for amatuer hockey but slowly grew from there. The original didnt have the rings on it as they were put on later as teams started to win and tradition started.

It is a trophy that is steeped in tradition dating back over 100 years.

Im a huge NFL guy. NFL is my favorite entity and Lombardi trophy is historic, but personally I think it pales in comparistion to The Cup.

If that Cup could only talk......been at the bottom of Swimming pools.....used is sooo many ways that we prolly wont even know!

I understand the tradition and history of the Cup but that doesn't make it the "greatest" in sports. That's strictly opinion.

The former is objectively factual, and is a strong argument for the latter.

What sort of factual argument can be made for any trophy being the "greatest" in sports, with no opinion inserted? I don't think it can be done for any. However, many opinions have been written over the years that the Stanley Cup is the greatest trophy in sports.

Give me the cup. Much more goes into winning it. It is the coolest and greatest trophy in sports.

There isn't just one Lombardi trophy like there is the Stanley Cup. They make a new Lombardi every year and then it's up to the team whether or not everyones names are engraved. I think that makes the Stanley Cup a far better trophy.

the difference between the origin of the stanley cup and the olympic medal is only 3 years. and technically the "spirit" of the olympics is much much older as i am sure you know. and there are also 3 Stanley Cups.

I beileve the Cup weighs about 35 pounds, and players say when they lift it, that it's lightest 35 pounds they've ever lifted.
