The Cavs by far are the best team in the league
-
newarkcatholicfanThere is not one team in the league that is close to them right now.

pkebkerWe have the best starting 5 and deepest bench...that's tough to beat.

BR1986FBI think the original post was sarcasm. Every one of the top teams heading into the playoffs has their blemishes.

osu99They have some work to do but my worry is somehow Mike Brown could screw it all up. We shall see. The only way to find the best team is to win it all in June.

Mike Brown scares the hell out of me. I get the feeling he could fall into a pile of tits and come out sucking his thumb.osu99 wrote: They have some work to do but my worry is somehow Mike Brown could screw it all up. We shall see. The only way to find the best team is to win it all in June. -

I don't know about, "by far", but top 10, yes.cbus4life wrote: NCF is by far the biggest douche on the Freehuddle. -
hoops23People who don't think Mike Brown can coach, doesn't understand the madness behind him.
You can keep pointing back to that Orlando series, but they were the better team. They simply matched up too well against us.
Does he have his faults? Sure.. Every coach does. But he's also the right guy for the Cavs because of his defensive schemes and knowledge for the game.
He's a trial and error coach. Meaning, he'll try something and doesn't really care how it works at first. Then, he goes back and watches the tape of that, over and over and over..
Example of that? The twin towers line up of Z and Shaq.. Remember how BAD it looked at the beginning against Boston and a couple of other teams? We never saw it again until the Orlando game about a week or 2 later.. Then, it worked great. So much so, that Stan Van Gundy started to employ his own version of it with Howard and Gortat in a few games following that one.. -

If that were true they'd be damn near undefeated.pkebker wrote: We have the best starting 5 and deepest bench...that's tough to beat. -
jpake1He's a good coach, period. You don't win an award because of pity, but rather respect. Those who matter respect the man as a coach. Maybe it's time the local fans do the same.

newarkcatholicfanI hate toi agree with LTrain23 but you are correct about Cav Fan.
skank,
your name says all I need to know.

No clue to who you are so carry on bandwagon person. -

I wouldn't say they are by far the best team. I would put them and the Lakers right there beside each other....but I would give LA the edge because they have championship experience -
FootwedgeI think last year's team was better. The stat line pretty much proves that (record and average points per win)....comparing the numbers this year to last year's numbers. Doesn't mean that we won't win it all this year.
To suggest that this team is better...is akin to saying the 96 Indians were better than the 95 Indians. -
pkebker
I fail to see your logic. The Cavs record as it stands now proves that they are tough to beat...cview wrote:

That's a ridiculous statement cview. The best teams in NBA history typically lose between 13-20 games a year. What do you consider "damn near undefeated" over an 82 game schedule?cview wrote:

No, this years team is better than last years team because we significantly upgraded our roster.Footwedge wrote: I think last year's team was better. Last year we had weaknesses that were exposed by bigger teams (Orlando, Boston, LA) this year, those mismatches were neutralized and in most cases, swung into our favor.
This year has seen an improved league as a whole. Teams that stunk it up last year are now playoff contenders.. Such as OKC, Memphis, Milwaukee, Charlotte, etc.. This is the reason for the deflated stats. Whether it be record (45-14 we must really suck) or average margin of victory..
Take a look at some of the other teams, like LA and Orlando.. They aren't nearly as good statistically this year as they were last year.. In LA's case, does that mean their a worse team? No..
You were slobbing all over this years team until they traded Z, now you seem hell bent on nitpicking every minor detail.. Whatever helps you cope, I guess. -

Not really. This year's team is loaded, and the best team on paper. Last year's team was equally talented if not moreso. The fundamental difference in your view and my view has to do with Orlando jast year. You think they were better than the Cavs, I think they weren't.
Your opinion is opiated by what the media has force fed you. You somehow equate the addition of Shaq, Moon, and Parker to being superior all aound players than what we had last year. Well, if that were true, then the average margin of victory would be greater this year. Last year, we had an average spread of 9 plus points, and were 74 and 16 before the Magic Series. This year, we again have the best team on paper...but I would not claim them to be better than last year's runaway train. Our "spread is only 7.5 per game...which still leads the league.Last year we had weaknesses that were exposed by bigger teams (Orlando, Boston, LA) this year, those mismatches were neutralized and in most cases, swung into our favor.
Your stats don't measure up at all. Poor argument. In fact, really poor.
The Eastern conference plays each other 4 times per team (with a couple of exceptions) and the East plays the West teams only twice. The Cavaliers have benefitted this year in playing a conference with teams that are colectively 45 to 50 games under 500. Last year, the East was above 500.
And before you site the Laker thingy and the Magic head to head thingy, let me remind you that last year's team blew out Denver twice...whereas this year, the Nuggets swept us.
Once again, your memory is failing you. LA and Orlando have almost identical records to where they were a year ago. Look it up. Statistically, they are pretty much the same as last year at this point. But I agree that they are both very strong teams, and are both capable of repeating.Take a look at some of the other teams, like LA and Orlando.. They aren't nearly as good statistically this year as they were last year.. In LA's case, does that mean their a worse team? No..
I still slobber over this team. I love this team...just as much as I loved last year's team. I don't nitpick much of anything. Just because I think that Jamison is our 4th best power forward, doesn't shove me into the "nitpicker" column. You were slobbing all over this years team until they traded Z, now you seem hell bent on nitpicking every minor detail.. Whatever helps you cope, I guess.
I don't base trades on what the media says...I do a little research on my own and come to better conclusions.
You want nitpickers? Then send Devil a PM...or the old Shawn1515. Those are the primary nitpickers.
Orrrr....just go back to the last in game thread...the OT win in Toronto. talk about nitpickers. We beat a team that willl likely win the East and be the number 4 seed on the road...on a back to back game. But the usual crybabies were over there bitching it up...having a good ole time talking about how bad we played and how ugly the win was. -
hoops23Footwedge, you always want to talk about records.. How about this..
Last year, vs Orlando and LA in the regular season, we were 1-5.
This year? We're 4-1.
See the difference? See what matchups do?
Want to take it further? The Magic not only beat us in the reg. season series 3-1, but they also beat us in the playoffs 4-2. That's 7-3 in 10 games against us.. I'd say that made them the better team. For the last time.. Our first 8 playoff games? 8-0. Our next 6? 2-4. You tell me what the difference was.
Regular season records are fools gold, however, I'm of the belief that what you do against the other elite teams isn't.. Both teams bring their 'A' games knowing this could be a potential playoff match up.. You want to leave no doubt..
Orlando was better than us last season and over a course of 10 games, they proved it. Nothing else mattered. They went on to play in the NBA Finals and the Cavs went on to wonder "what do we need to do"?
Danny Ferry, who has proved to be one of, if not THE best GM in the NBA, went out and did what he felt was needed. He added Shaq and taller wings in AP and Moon.. If you didn't see the difference in our team with those guys in the line up against the likes of Orlando and LA, then I don't know what to tell you..
I will hoever agree with you on certain fans.. Though devil isn't exactly one I would call out about nit picking.. He has his opinions about the team and that's fine.. That's what these types of places are for..
I let things play out though. I never try to get too high or too low during a season.. Over 82 games, every elite team faces a lull and a high streak.. The only important thing is to be peaking at the right time. -

4 teams in the West have exceeded their win total from last year. OKC(34 this year and 23 last), Memphis(30 and 24), LAC(24 and 19) and Sacramento (19 and 17). Portland(1), Houston(even-29) and the Lakers(2) are the only teams that are within 2 losses of matching last years totals.
1 team in the East has exceeded their win total from last year. The Wizards(!) had 19 wins last year and have 20 this year. 3 teams are on within 2 losses or have exceeded their loss total from last year-Cleveland 2 away, Boston +1 and New Jersey +4. -
BR1986FBSo....Shaq, Moon, and Parker aren't greater than Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic & Wally, which are essentially the guys we brought in to replace them? I'm sorry but that's crazy talk.
-
ytownfootball...and bringing in Jamison for a #30 draft pick that has yet to play in the league...crazy talk indeed. Basing your argument on 1.5 difference in winning margin is also deluded. Only a slightly better FT shooting could have erased this margin and left your pie-in-the-sky argument completely toothless.
