Weekend boxing 2/19

• Hulk Smash

  Looks like Friday Night Fights has a decent line up in Texas tonight.
  It is a Golden Boy Promotions card though so I'm a bit skeptical. GBP had a lot of FNF shows last year and every one of them was total crap, espn should have started every GBP show with an apology to the viewers. FNF always gets a good crowd in Texas though.
  
  Featherweights Antonio Escalante(22-2) vs Miguel Roman(28-6) in the main event. Looks good on paper, we'll see what happens when they get in the ring...
  Danny Garcia(15-0) vs Ashley Theophane(25-3-1) on the show too.
  I've been wanting to see Garcia, glad he got a tv fight, hopefully Theophane is good enough to make him fight.

  FSN has boxing tomorrow night and once again their line up is waaaaayyyyy better than the espn card.
  
  Welterweights Mike Jones(19-0) vs Henry Bruseles(28-3-1)
  Bruseles' last loss was to Floyd Mayweather jr 5 years ago, this a real step up in class for Jones. I think Jones will win and will eventually go on to be one of the top boxers in the sport.
  Kendall Holt(25-3) vs Kaizer Mabuza(22-6-3)
  Holt is one of the most unpredictable boxers there, I hope he wins tonight then takes a fight with Jones later.

  I expect the FSN show to be more entertaining than the espn show this week.

  I know what you mean. I watched one or two GBP cards last year and I'm only SLIGHTLY exaggerating when I say that many bouts on those shows seemed to be:
  
  Highly touted Golden Boy fighter
  
  vs.
  
  Some schlub like me
  
  
  Obviously, the results of those fights were quite predictable.

  Golden Boy delivered a great show this time!!
  
  Garcia/Theophane put on a darn good fight, the split decision was justified, very good, very close fight. I agreed with the decision but it was very close, Theophane probably feels like he got jobbed
  
  The main event was a GREAT fight!!!
  A very vocal crowd showed up to watch two local fighters declare war on one another for 10 rounds.
  All action, bombs away for ten rounds, doesn't get any better than that.
  
  Golden Boy has something like 8 Friday Night Fight dates this year, it would be great if they can deliver shows like this one every time.

  I didn't catch the Garcia/Theophane fight, but yeah, the main event was awesome. Those two fought their asses off for the full 10 rounds. Very fun to watch!

  Finally got around to watching the FSN show a little while ago.
  I have to say I'm impressed with what Top Rank is doing with this new boxing series so far even though the espn show blew it away this week. The commentators said they have sold out everywhere they've been to this point and they have put together a lot of solid fights. Complete opposite of what Top Rank did on Versus when they gave the network nothing but crap.
  
  I guess Holt won't be fighting Jones in the future...
  Jones dominated Bruseles but was not very impressive, fight was boring imo.
  I still hope he starts getting some bigger fights though, I think he can really make some noise in the near-weight divisions.
