Chargers Release Tomlinson

Not really a surprise. I wonder where he'll end up.

    New England

Not really a surprise, but I'm still shocked..

When you think of the Chargers, you think of LT... It'll be crazy not seeing him in SD anymore.
  • BCBulldog
No surprise. 30 year-old RBs are as disposable as the athletic tape you need to hold them together.

I think we all saw this one coming. I'm just waiting for the fantasy idiots to draft him in the 1st round like they have the past two years. The guy is average now-a-days.

Yeah LT said this was going to happen a long time ago.

He was always an awesome fantasy guy, regular season performer, but I can't forget the playoff appearances they had where he was a no-show. Him sitting and pouting on the bench as the Chargers were about to be eliminated seemed to be an every year occurrence.
  • Al Capone
Some team out there will sign and completely overpay him.

I believe your talking about the 2007-2008 season and Rivers also played in that game with a torn MCL or ACL.

Well, I hope they find a damn good replacement. I love Sproles, but he is not the answer. Draft or Free Agency. Good Luck!

It's interesting what happens to a back like LT when they hit that age. In a decade will we see the life of an NFL back extended due to the pass-first trend???

I really don't think so, for the simple reason that most good HB's have been HB's their whole lives, so from Biddy League on up they were the HB, and they've been getting hit, and a lot of miles have been put on the tires, by the time they even reach college, let alone the NFL. Sadly I don't think this is something you'll ever see change for the vast majority if the HB's. There will be a few who can play longer but for the most part after the age of 30 they are effectively done.

Yeah that was one of the years, but I think he did it again this year.

He still has some value as a limited x number of carries per season but more as a pass catcher. He would be great in a place like New Orleans with all the space they give their backs in the open field. LT is still a top 5 screen back.

Agree! Sproles is not an every down back. I wouldn't be shock if the Chargers miss the playoffs.

I could see the 49ers or the Packers getting him. They both could use a guy like him to help carry the load.

I'd love to see Cincinnati go after LT..... Benson getting 20-25 carries and LT w/ 10+ and catching passes out of the backfield that would be a dream but will not happen lol

I have a feeling he will be playing for the Dallas Cowboys net fall. LT is from Texas and the appeal of playing at home for the team he likely grew up rooting for for a paycheck will be too much. And trust me, Jerry Jones will pay whatever it takes.

    Jerry is also not stupid.

He's got 3 young backs all better than LT at this point, he won't let any of them go for LT.

I can see LT winding up in Pittsburgh as the 3rd down back, or maybe end up on the Patriots.
  • Al Bundy
LT has to be able to accept a new role to be useful to a new team. If he is willing to accept 10-15 touches a games, he could help some teams. A lot will depend on his attitude towards a lesser role.

Even better idea! I would love for LT to end up with the Steelers :)

    I lol'd. So true.

I could see the Texans making a play for him...they have seemed to like the old, broken down running backs in the past.
  • Eric Taylor
I could see a team like Seattle or Houston making a play.
  • Strapping Young Lad
Minnesota may be in the market for a 3rd down back if Taylor leaves. I ain't sayin', I'm just sayin'.

    It'd be a downgrade, IMO.
