Accenture Match Play Championship

  • burt07
I know no one still cares about golf, but one of my favorite events is taking place this week with the Accenture Match Play Championship. With no Tiger, no Phil, and the Olympics going on this will go wayyyyy under the radar this week but o well, it's still an entertaining event to me. Steve Stricker, Lee Westwood, Jim Furyk, and Martin Kaymer are the number one seeds. You would think with his recent dominance of the event that Geoff Ogilvy would have to be the favorite and in the end, that's who I'm going with this week. I look for good performances out of Ross Fisher and Ian Poulter as well.

    Here's the bracket:

Ogilvy has already dispatched his first opponent in the tournament, as he easily defeats Alexander Noren 7&5. So far only one other player has advanced as Robert Allenby beat Peter Hanson 4&2.

Who do you guys got....... Europeans or the field?
  • stroups
Dustin Johnson is already out. I thought he was going to be a sleeper

I've got Ogivly so I guess I got the field. But I do like a lot of the Euros to do well.

    Other results so far:

Adam Scott def. Angel Cabrera 3&2
Owen Wilson def. Miguel Angel Jimenez 3&2
Luke Donald def. Graeme McDowell 2&1
Paul Casey def. Mike Weir 5&4
Mike Weir def. Alvaro Quiros 8&6
Brian Gay def. Kenny Perry 2&1
Ben Crane def. Henrik Stenson Conceded

Of the 10 results so far, I've gotten 9/10 winners right in my bracket (my friends and I have a $5 bet on the best bracket), the only loss coming when I thought Angel Cabrera would take down Scott, but I have the winner of that losing to Poulter.

I have been impressed with Ishikawa so far.

Paul Casey has been playing really well so I think he will win it.

Yeah I had Casey going pretty deep, like you said he's playing well and he's just a tremendous match play competitor. Now watch he'll probably go lose tomorrow haha.

It'll be interesting to see what Sergio does the rest of the tournament. Definitely the biggest name left out there and would be a great opportunity to get some limelight on himself after having a pretty rough year last year. Other guys I like that are left are Poulter, Villegas, and Cink.
