Caldwell vs. Dungy
-
77LegendNow that the game is over. Can we say the Colts defense was not the same without Dungy? They've said all year how the defense was better. I think not.......They made no adjustments to stop Brees over the middle, the Colts run a cover 2, the weakness to that defense is over the middle, but nothing changed from what I saw!
-
hoops23Both coaches rode Peyton Manning to the Super Bowl.
Though, Tony Dungy is/was a better coach than Jim Caldwell, but only because he had the head coaching experience. -
77LegendI agree LTrain with riding Peyton, but in the SuperBowl vs the Bears, I would say the defense played a bigger part in winning that game. Would you not agree?
-
hoops23haha, well comparing the Bears offense to the Saints offense is like comparing a tricycle to a Ferrari!
Of course the defense looked better against the Bears -
Little DannyI question Jim Caldwell's coaching abilities as well. Peyeton Manning is not only the QB, he calls the offensive plays as well. I saw a couple times where he was speaking to the O-Line discussing blocking assignments and making adjustments. Maybe he should have been doing the same to the Colts defense.
-
Pick6I've never thought of the Colts as having a good defense.
-
mallymal614Just throwing it out there, but isn't it the coaches credit for allowing Manning the freedom of play calling? So does this mean Bill Belichick won because of Tom Brady? This argument can be made for any coach. Nobody can win without the players.

jordo212000Caldwell didn't look like he said a word the whole game. How can you be a head coach without showing any signs of life for 4 quarters? (The answer? Peyton Manning is the de facto head coach)

You have a the Ohio State logo next to your name, ever heard of Jimmy Tressel that do the exact same thing?jordo212000 wrote: Caldwell didn't look like he said a word the whole game. ehh I'll give you the fact that Tress doesn't show a whole lot of emotion. But I do see him at least talking and yelling down on the sideline. Can't say that for Caldwell. That's not to say whatever he is doing (or not doing) isn't working, just that I have never seen him talk, blink, or show any signs of life.mallymal614 wrote: You have a the Ohio State logo next to your name, ever heard of Jimmy Tressel that do the exact same thing? -

LOL. I was thinking the same thing. How many times can they show Jim Caldwell and him not say a word or show any emotion? Jim Tressel talks, walks along the sidelines, does everything except get hugely emotional, but every single time they showed Jim Caldwell(that I saw) he just stood there, didn't say a word, and just moved his eyes. It was pure comedy, especially if you read Bill Simmons and him joking about Caldwell being dead. I couldn't believe he was just standing there doing nothing.jordo212000 wrote: Caldwell didn't look like he said a word the whole game. Puddle JumperThis is like saying Tomlin is better than Cowher since he won in his 2nd yr and it took Cowher 15 yrs.

Ironman92Don't forget that it was Dungy that helped leaad the Bucs from the worst to VERY formidable....I think losing a NFC championship game before Gruden took the helm all the way.
Caldwell was 14-0 in his coaching career and then tanked a game on purpose 1/2 through the game......who does that? -
Mr Pat
He took them to the NFC Championship game in 1999. However in 2000 and 2001 they were dominated both times by the Eagles in the NFC Wild Card game.Ironman92 wrote: Don't forget that it was Dungy that helped leaad the Bucs from the worst to VERY formidable....I think losing a NFC championship game before Gruden took the helm all the way.

Ironman92....and what were they before Dungy?
-
Ironman92before Dungy started in TB....Tampa Bay had 14 consecutive losing seasons.....Dungy had 5 consecutive non-losing seasons in his last 5 years of the 6 with TB....including multiple playoffs and an NFC championship game
-
Mr PatThat had nothing to do with what I said, I was just providing facts and clearing up your post. If you can show where I hinted anything about his coaching abilities I will concede to you.
-
Ironman92don't need a concession....the dominant part of your post made mine look weaker...so I backed it up
no biggie -
Mr PatFair enough, as you were my good man!
