Vince Young

  • Fly4Fun
    Man... he sure is terrible.

    17-25 210 yards 1 TD 1 INT

3-0 so far this year on a team that was previously 0-6.

Once again, I'll restate that he isn't great... but he is good enough to help the Titans win.

    Im very happy for Vince.

I don't think he is great, but he forces defenses to prepare different.

    Copy that.

I'm also glad that Vince Young seems to be playing well.

After what he did in the Rose Bowl against USC, it's hard to root against him.

Glad to see that talent not go to waste, he still has some room for improvement but I can't imagine anyone not rooting for him....BTW doesn't hurt that he has Chris Johnson in the backfield.
  • hoops23
^To be fair, Kerry Collins also had Chris Johnson in the backfield.

I always want to see him do well.

I think this is a team he can succeed on as well, never be a star, but just manage games and get them through to victories.

The funny thing is, these are the same stats Mike Vick was putting up and he was considered a star.
  • gport_tennis
Vick had the exciting big play ability either with his legs or through the air. Fans like the big play. Vick was a more likeable guy as well. Vince young's PR has rebounded lately but for a while he wasn't someone you rooted for. That's why one is a star and one is not. Atleast to me
  • Manhattan Buckeye
Vick was likeable? Really? What did he ever do that was likeable besides hanging and shooting dogs (obviously, I'm being sarcastic)? I'd wager most Vick fans couldn't even recall an interview from him when he said anything halfway relevant. The guy is a joke in Philly, and was overrated before his arrest.

lol, how was Mike Vick more likable than Vince? Even before the dog fighting incident you had Vick flipping off home fans..

Also, I'd say VY gives you the chance of a big play with his legs. He's done it countless times before in the NFL.

Vince Young has always been able to be a pretty good player. Problem is Fisher thought he had a team to win the Super Bowl and he was right (last year) because Young isnt that type of QB. However, seems that his decision to go to Collins last year and the success it had has really backfired. I think he was too impressed with himself from last season to admit he was wrong this year.

I am also happy for Vince. Especially with all the adversity he's faced the past couple years. And the things he has done for others, such as Steve McNair's sons. Classy guy with a lot of potential.

Another week... another solid game from VY and another win for the Titans.

At what point do the Titans really start to regret keeping Collins in for 6 weeks?
  • dave
They played the Colts and Pats in weeks 5 and 6, so it wouldn't have mattered.

With as bad as the AFC is they have an outside shot at a wildcard.

Good point, I didn't think about who the played the two previous weeks. Well i knew they played... well let me rephrase... they got destroyed by the Pats.

The guy is just a winner on the football field. It took a couple of years for him to get his bearings straight in Tennessee, but it appears he is going to end up being at least moderately successful in the league, which is more than a lot of people thought he would be.

Nice game, Vince! Because of your heroic efforts, I was 12-3 in this week's office pool. (of course, since I was next to last going in, it really doesn't matter in the "Big Picture", but it helps me mentally).
I was wondering when the Titans would wake up and start playing the way they can. I guess they have found their grove.

    Vince is the man 4 - 0 WOW. AFTER STARTING 0 - 6??
  • Prescott
VY is playing like he has some understanding of the NFL game. He matured while he watched Kerry Collins and his teammates seem to believe in him. Obviously, he is not nor will he ever be a drop back passer, but his ability to run for critical first downs is something that very few NFL QB's have.

I don't think this type of QBing can win playoff games, but it can win regular season games.
  • SQ_Crazies
This type of QB can win ANY game if he stays under control and has the right pieces around him. He's got the right pieces around him. They won't win playoff games because they have no defense. But offensively, they're officially as scary a team as ANY in the league (that means Colts, Vikins and Saints IMO).

And I'll give him major props because I think the Texans defense is one of the most underrated units in the NFL. Fun game to watch last night--one thing I noticed about the Texans, if they keep that team together for 3-4 more years...look out. They are so young all over the place and could be something spectacular down the road. Oh and I really do believe that Andre Johnson may be the best reciever in football right now.
  • jpake1
I'll echo that comment about the Texans. Youngest team in the NFL. They will continue to rise. Just have to learn how to win the close ones.

First I will say that I'm a Titans fan (not too many of us around these parts!) and I was impressed last night with VY and some of his decision making. He made some plays last night that he just couldn't/wouldn't make in years past. I'm really pleased by his progress and I think it's due to Kerry Collins and the fact that when VY went down with his injury Collins was able to step in and take the starting job. That forced VY to sit on the bench and observe and learn about being an effective QB in the NFL. Before Collins, VY was in games and forced to do things he was not good at (make effective defensive reads, check down throws) so he forced a ton of throws or ran the ball too early on broken plays. You could see last night that he has learned to let plays develop a bit more (TD throw to Britt instead of tucking and run or throwing to Johnson), or checking down to a 3rd option when the 1st and 2nd were not there. He obviously also has the ability to run the ball himself as he displayed numerous times which becomes more of a factor once he shows he can make throws consistently.

Well, all the people that would know say he's putting the time in and he's working hard so with his abilities you knew it had to pay off. Looks like it is now, I'm glad too--I like Vince Young. I hated when he beat OSU but I won't forget that performance against USC as long as I live.
