Cincinnati Reds offseason

Yes the Reds are having a pretty good start heading into Spring, getting Chapman and signing Orlando Cabrera. CAN the Reds surprise some people and be a contender? Or break the hearts of their fans again?

    86 wins

I didnt know that they got Aaron Miles in the trade for Taveras...Is he going to play 2nd or Short. Maybe be a back up to Phillips

I think if everyone stays healty and dusty baker doesnt mess around with the lineup the whole season...and get another pitcher hurt, we could contend for the wild card.

'10 Reds with some no name random dude managing- 87 wins
'10 Reds with Dusty managing- 72 wins

I like the offseason moves and have some small hopes for the future, though I'm not giving them too much credit until Dusty is far away from Cinci...

I'm hoping they dont throw Chapman into the starting rotation before he is ready...Dusty has some bad experience with getting young pitchers arm problems: Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, knock on wood Edison Volquez

I see the Reds surprising some people this year

Gotta walk before you run. I will be ecstatic with a winning season, which I think is a reasonable goal. Get some momentum for '11.

I think this could be a good year, but I look for next year to be even better...Chapman with a year of experience, along with the other young pitchers, hopefully a healty Volquez, at the beginning of the year, sign Cabrera to another year and everyone would have had a full yr with each other and build some nice chemistry.

When I first saw this thread, I had a similar thought:

    With Baker managing, 70 wins.

If Pete Mackanin had been given the job instead of Baker, 85 wins just missing playoffs.

If they had actually hired Girardi in 2007 after they fired Jerry Narron, instead of waiting for the season to end, 92 wins taking the Central.

If they fired Baker today, let a panel of freehuddlers set the rotation and daily lineup and have Billy Hatcher manage the game, 82 wins.

I will go with 78 wins.
