JJ Hickson showed again today that he has tremendous potential. He's still only in his second year and I do like what I've seen from him at times. If he can become consistent, he's going to be a very good player in this league.

Yes but unfortunately many agree that Cleveland cannot rely on him to play his minutes in the postseason. There will be better defensive teams that will take those easy layups and dunks away from Hickson. I don't think he hit a jumper at all tonight, or even attempted one.

He over shot his one attempt (jumper) from 15 ft badly, masonary style.

With the attention that Shaq and LeBron receive, he shouldn't be taking jumpers. We have enough Jump shooters.

JJ did what he should be doing all along, and that's rolling to the basket when the defense loses him.

Either way, from what I'm hearing, more people think Cleveland should keep JJ than let him go..

I'm impartial, because if we can get Jamison then yeah, go for it.. But Troy Murphy or somebody that doesn't really strike me as a "big addition", no way do I trade JJ as part of the deal. He's still 21 or 22 and is obviously still a bit raw, but with our cap situation you're going to need those young guys under contract.
  • devil1197
Those rolls to the basketball every possession will more than likely not be there in the playoffs when teams actually buckle down on the defensive end.

There are only a couple guys I'd give up JJ for and Murphy isn't one of them. I want to keep JJ because he does have potential but his reliability is the main problem come May and June. He is limited in his offensive capabilities and we all know he lacks defensive skills.

We won't be counting on JJ though. We'll be counting on LeBron, Shaq, and Mo...

JJ just needs to do what he can do. And those possessions will always be there as long as he keeps moving. Andy gets those same looks against the LA's and Bostons of the world..

Heck, JJ played very good against LA the other night.

Our front line will be deep once Powe returns, so I'm really not worried about JJ.

I honestly think 2 guard is our biggest need of upgrade. I love the defense Parker provides and he's usually money from 3, however, Delonte West is still up in the air and it would be nice to get another good option at the 2.
  • devil1197
Obviously teams count on their stars but games are sometimes decided on how well role players play. Mo didn't show up last year along with our other role players against Orlando.

And we don't know how Powe will do coming back after his what 4th ACL injury? I think he'll be fine but I don't want to stand pat hoping that Powe is back to normal. So right now we have AV who is consistent on both ends, JJ who hasn't played in those types of atmospheres has liabilities on both ends, and Powe who is coming off another major surgery.

I agree that a guard would be needed and hopefully Cleveland can find a 3rd team to work a suitable guard in with a PF. With the season suspensions of Arenas/Critt, I am nervous for the decision on West. I know its different situations with the workplace but Stern isn't too happy about the gun situations.

I'm torn on JJ. Right now teams aren't accounting for him and he gets his especially early in games. That won't last but he is young, will probably improve, and I think LeBron likes him around. I think he's dumb as a brick though.

I agree that you pull the trigger for Jamison should that come about but I think we might be making a mistake letting him go cheaply.
  • devil1197
ytown, Cleveland won't trade a player that LeBron really likes unless he gives them permission lol.
  • hoops23
I'm starting to lean more towards not trading JJ at all. 21 years old, got no PT during his rookie year and missed all of the summer to try and improve, yet his potential is still showing.

You can say all you want, but there is a reason LeBron and Shaq love the guy. Once he develops a jumpshot (something he could have worked on if not for being injured in the summer) he'll be a very good player. He's already finishing at the basket wit more consistency and is becoming a very solid rebounder.

We need to keep some of these young guys. We need to build a core of players because we can't always rely on trades or FA signings to improve this team. That is a formula of disaster.

Thank you LTrain, I've been saying that since we gave up a freaking 1st round pick for Jiri Welsch a few years ago. LeBron doesn't just want A championship, he wants multiple championships. In order to do that, you need to build a young solid core around him. Now we've got some of those guys in Andy, Mo, Delonte, etc...but we really messed up some of them (being too respectful to Boozer, trading the pick for Welsch, completely missing on Luke Jackson). Not to mention we never look to try and get draft picks in trades so that we can possibly get into the lottery and get an impact player in the draft for once (other than LeBron of course). You can't just keep trading for/signing veterans that are only good for a couple of years. OKC has done the right thing with Durant, they've built him a young solid team through the draft and the Thunder are going to be at the top of the west for years in a short time.

One question, why is Jawad Williams ever in the game?? He's flippin' horrible!
  • devil1197
Williams had a bad game last night but he has been solid.

I can understand these type of games make people, including me, want to get Hickson. But his value will be at its highest and if something good comes along I won't be upset with Ferry if he pulls the trigger.
  • se-alum
    J. Williams is shooting 40%, and 26% from 3, and he's average defensively. I wouldn't call him solid.
  • Cleveland Buck
Jawad Williams has his moments, but he shouldn't be playing. Once Delonte comes back, I would rather see Boobie get Jawad's minutes. Gibson has a tough time guarding bigger guards in the post, but he is a solid on ball defender and makes big shots.
  • hoops23
You guys better lay the fuck off of Jawad Williams. He's a boss.

He's also had some very good games. For the spot he's been put in, I'd say he's performing well.. It's like you expect every guy to come in and shoot 50% from the field and 40% from 3...

Also, he's more than "average" on defense. There is a reason Mike Brown kept him on the roster, and it's not because he's "average" on defense.

He's always been a very good defensive and highly smart basketball player.
  • SQ_Crazies
He's above average. Average players are in the D-league.

Is it too much to ask for him to shoot mid 40's and at least 30-35% from 3??

    Um, yes?
  • hoops23
He was at 40% from 3 a few games ago, however with as few as he's taken, some misses here and there are going to drag the % down.

Hell, Kobe is only a 27% 3 point shooter :)

Looks like Gibson is doing fine at 3rd string PG. 3-0 with him. Many of you guys were saying "he doesnt fit in with what the team is trying to do."
  • dave
he doesn't. did you see the 4th quarter last game? He needs lebron on the court so he can act as a 2 guard.
