Heading to Indianapolis for the Indy Circle Track Expo tomorrow night... I'm ready for April and the USAC opener at Lawrenceburg .

The weather was perfect Thurs and Friday, last nite was one big party in the infield. Today, the rain came for a treacherous start in the race. Vic Elford is the Grand Marshall. Skies are clearing up now and going to cool off, but on track is heating up. Tomorrow should be awesome. Hurley Haywood's farewell...

Michael Shank Racing from Columbus has both cars in top shape, starting 2nd and 3rd on the grid.

Patrick Dempsey is running 7th in GT class, 15th overall in a Mazda RX-8. He is a great driver.
One clean line around the track, lots and lots of debris everywhere.
Allmendinger 3rd in the Michael Shank Racing Ford Riley, only a lap or two behind.

after 22 hours and 40 minutes, the car caught fire with Allmendinger in the hot seat. He got a quick tow back to the garage, but the fire looked bad.

"One of my engineers told me around 7 o'clock Saturday night, 'Wouldn't it be great if we could lead a lap?"' Nelson said. "I told him, 'We're going to do a lot more than lead one lap."'

Gary Nelson engineered the win for the UN-sponsored # 9 Action Express team owned by a local Daytona Beach businessman. The team is mostly last year's Brumos 58 crew. They won by about 50 seconds, less than one lap, after racing 2687 miles in 24 hours. Ganassi was second again, last year it was under 2 seconds at the finish.
