Colts WR's.....

With Reggie Wayne being at the top of his game, Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie playing well, is it the end in Indy for Gonzo? One of my favorite Buckeyes, but it seems to me his run in Indy may come to an end. Injury bug. What do you think?
  • Lovejoy1984
I doubt it. He'll be back next season, and will probably still be the #2 going into camp.

Gotta love seeing Mount Union alums do well in the NFL.

It may be, and I'm not 100% sure where he will fit in the rest of the league. Indy was a perfect situation for his skill set with their use of the slot receiver. Not a lot of other teams really make use of the slot like they do. New England comes to mind, but Welker has that spot a few years yet.

I hope Gonzo can latch on because he was always a favorite of mine.

Wow, you think he goes in as the # 2 WR? Garcon hasn't proved to be a decent one?
  • Lovejoy1984
Yeah I think he'll go back in to the #2 option at WR. He's produced when he's played, they won't just give up on him.

Garcon has been ok and may end up being the #2 on the Depth Chart, I could see Gonzalez going back to the slot which is typically called the #3, but in Indy and NE's system they are the 2nd option.

I agree with the NE situation. Gonzo to me is a #2 or #3 WR. I just hope he can come back. Hate the fact that he is missing one heck of a season.

    Me too, Me too.

    He'll be back.

The rest of the AFC better stock up on defensive backs.

Not just one, you need 3-4 guys you can trust.
  • Enforcer
    what happened to him?
  • september63
That offense can get 5 WR's 50 catches. He will be back.
  • Laley23
Colts wont give up on him, however, I doubt hes the #2. Garcon has the size, speed, and strength to be a Pro-Bowler. Gonzo doesnt.

Wow. 2010-11 skill players around Manning. Clark, Wayne, Addai, Brown, Garcon, Collie, and Gonzalez. And a heeluva offensive line.
  • DaBrowns41
You can never have too many weapons. The only thing that the Gonzo injury did was allow Collie and Garcon more time on the field for Indy to see what they had in him.

    Gonzo will stay, easily, IMO.

77, I think you forgot to mention Mike Hart in that group ;)

Garcon will be the #2 next year. There's no question about that. Gonzo will probably play out of the slot. I don't know where that leaves Collie. Maybe you see one of them traded?

I actually think that Garcon has the tools to eventually be Reggie Wayne's successor as the #1 WR in the Colts system. No way they are going to downgrade Garcon's role after the year he has had and the potential he has shown. The odd man out will be one of Collie/Gonzo. I second what jordo said, if the Colts think Gonzo can stay healthy, I wouldn't be surprised if they sold high on Collie and traded him.

you gotta love high roller's comment that Garcon has been "ok" haha.

Is Gonzo solid? Could he be the #2? Yeah... but with Garcon who plays like a #1, you play Garcon.

I wonder if he thinks that Manning guy is just "ok" too?

Garcon to me, depending on his play in the Super Bowl will return as they leader for the # 2 WR. Collie and Gonzo, can't keep both of them because you have Dallas Clark as the 4th WR on the field in their main offensive set, but he is a main target. Right now I would say Gonzo # 3 over Collie for next year. Keep Collie and see if he is worth anything in the trade market. Or maybe Gonzo.
  • Lovejoy1984
I wasn't talking about today. Today Garcon has been nothing short of amazing, but the season as a whole, he's just been ok. But he really did start to come on during the end of the season. He seems like he's going to be a very productive WR.

In 13 games (he barely played in one game he didnt start, so technically 14 games) Pierre Garcon had:

    47 catches
765 yards, for a 16.3 yard per catch average
    4 TDs

He was basically the 3rd option behind Wayne and Clark this year, and Collie took away his red zone targets as the Colts like to use more spread formations and do a lot of over the middle stuff close to the endzone.

I think he will for sure be the #2 WR, and be Reggie Waynes successor (as he was with Harrison). As I said before, he has all the tools and the body to be a Pro-Bowl receiver.
