Darryl Strawberry is an idiot!

  • Ytowngirlinfla
Currently on ESPN first take pretty much defending McGwire. He stated that he would have still hit 70 home runs not on steroids and that McGuire, being a great player already, taking steroids didn't make him any better than he already was. Seriously? If you take them to "heal" from injuries then technically it's making you better than being off them.

Steroids don't make you better.... LOL RIGHT!

If steraroids didn't make you a better player, wouldn't they have gone away on their own?

Strawberry was never the ripest one of the bunch.

    Pun intended.

I think he was probably high.

Are you just now figuring out that Strawberry is a moron?

Who is next to be interviewed by espn on this matter? Steve Howe? Jose Conseco? Rafael Palmeiro?

I think they should do a trial test. Get Dustin Pedroia to juice in the offseason and see how much his homerun numbers increase by. I agree that PED's don't have an affect on hand-eye coordination, but to act like the muscle they help add to your frame don't help your power when you do make contact with the ball is fucking insane.

I still think McGuire could have broken the record without steroids. Maybe not 70 and definitely not the bombs he had, but I really do think he could have still hit 62.

Then he shouldn't have used and proved it.

Well it's a moot point now. Hell, he hit 49 his rookie year. Honestly, I think he used the steroids to heal faster. So maybe he couldn't have broken it because of injuries, but he had the talent.

Straw was never one who was smart with his words, especially when in front of a camera... I'll always love him for how he played on the Yankee teams he won rings for, but the rest of it, well...

Strawberry was a great player and could've been a hall of famer had he stayed off the prison powder.....

You bring up a good point. McGwire was in the hunt to break the record a number of times, but always faded (hint: there's a benefit of steroids helping recovery).

I thought McGwire probably juiced, but I could have given him the benefit of the doubt since he was a beast coming into the league. But I'll point out that just means he might have been using since college (or even high school).

Now, I know people are going to say he only admitted to taking them for a few years. He was taking andro for awhile, too, so there could be truth to that. However, I'm skeptical that while athletes in the past would deny deny deny even while the syringe is clearly sticking out from their ass, I think the new twist is "yeah, I took them...BUT only for a short while and they didn't do anything for me". Kind of like a "yeah, technically I'm guilty but it didn't matter"

That guy was genetically predisposed to the snowman dust. :D

He actually had all the natural ability of Bonds (well, except for catching)...just chose the wrong drug.

    Steve Howe? Really?

Hope this was just a weak attempt at a joke. Dude has been dead for nearly 4 years.

Well he got a lot bigger between his rookie year the 70 HR year. A lot. Most would assume that was from the roids, however I guess we could argue it was just from age and a better work ethic/availability of better equipment etc.

Maybe. I guess it just wasn't as noticeable since he was a big dude with a big frame when he came into the league

Good God....I think Mark McGuire is going to make the HOF

Didn't McGwire deny using in front of a Congressional grand jury?
