  Isn't it the GM's job to know what type of player he is signing?

  The Utah Jazz traded their first round pick Eric Maynor, who has a tremendous upside, and Matt Harpring for absolutely nothing not long ago. I love the way the NBA cap works, but I hate it at the same time, for reasons like this. Marcus Camby traded for cap space and a swap of second round picks, what the fuck!? That was a few years ago, but still. I wouldn't put any move past any NBA team, other than LA trading Kobe or Cleveland trading LeBron.

  Absolutely. He was coming off a GREAT season in DC and nearly everyone, not just Ferry, thought the Cavs were getting LeBron's "Pippen". It isn't Ferry's fault that Larry didn't own up to his contract. Not sure how you could say it is...

  BTW, I'm a Heels fan and Jawad is one of my favorite Heels ever... I like him no matter what he does..

  Experience is huge in the NBA for most players. Jawad hasn't played much but he's been in the league long enough to know what his game is--more so than Hickson anyways.

  However, he's been this way since he was in High School.. He's always done what he was needed to do and has been a lockdown type of defender in every level, though he hasn't played enough in the NBA to get that label yet...

  If you remember correctly, Redd resigned with Milwaukee, Ray Allen I think was the other big name free agent, and he elected to re-sign with Seattle, which left us only Hughes. While today it seems like a terrible deal, we had to sign someone, no way Cleveland fans could have made it through another season without a #2 option, and we had to pay Hughes a little more than Washington was willing to offer him in order to get him to leave. Problem ended up being that we were expecting Scotty Pippen and ended up getting more like Jamal Crawford.

  Larry Hughes was dog shit in every phase of the game. Comparing Highes to Crawford?

  As expected, Hughes is getting minimal p.t. in NY these days.

  He wasn't dog shit previous to becoming a Cav, he was the best option available that we could get at the time. He was a high volume shooter who Ferry hoped would be able to turn less shot attempts into a higher shooting %, and it didn't happen. Add that with his defense decaying and his constant injuries, and you have the Larry Hughes we saw and the one playing for the Knicks today. And yes, he is Jamal Crawford version 2.0. Scores only because he shoots a lot.
  
  Its easy to try and analyze a trade or a free agent signing well after the fact, and determine it by how that guy performs. If Hughes had played well, nobody would be claiming the shit they do. His skills declined faster than I'd have predicted.

  That's why I still don't think the Hughes deal was a bad deal. Hindsight is 20/20, not every move is going to work out. At the time it looked like Ferry made a great move, so just because it didn't work out doesn't mean that the average fan can go back on the excitement they had when he came to town. Just didn't work out...who cares, we're so far removed from that anyways.
