Greatest NFL Running Back of All Time

I should have started a thread on who is the second greatest ever :)

    Jimmy by far IMO.

    I agree.

Jimmy was the best....except for Bo Jackson. Bo knew football.
  • BCSbunk
Jim Brown. I don't even think it is that close.
  • Trueblue23
    Barry Sanders
  • Mr. 300
Jim Brown. One bad momma jammer.

Jim brown is one of the all time leading rushers, despite only playing 9 seasons, at a time where there were only 12 & 14 regular season games. And before someone say "Well the players weren't as good back then" it goes both ways. Yes Jimmy would go up against better defensive players today, but he would have had a much bigger and better offensive line to run behind. If big backs such as Eddie George, Jerome Bettis, and Brandon Jacobs can get yardage in the modern era, then Brown also would have with ease with his physical tools.

Anyone who ever saw Jim Brown play football would have to agree that he was the best -- ever.

There have been some outstanding backs since he played, but none as powerful, durable and consistently productive over nine years.

I love watching Tomlinson run, but he and Emmitt do not belong in the conversation.

Jim Brown followed by Barry Sanders...IMO.

Jim Brown has to top the list obviously...

But I have a deep appreciation for the varying styles of Sweetness, Earl Cambell and Barry Sanders. They were all unique and awesome to watch.

I watched Jimmy live about 2 dozen times....and I think Bo Jackson was better....his hip injury ruined his ascension to number one status, IMO.

I added Ladanian because it seem like he is breaking some kind of NFL record every year. I had to put Emmit on the list because he is #1 all time in yardage, though I think he was extremely overrated.

Barry Sanders. He had no OL, and if you watch some of his highlights on youtube, you can see that he has the best vision, and can simply start and stop on a dime.

this is like picking one super model over another, Jim Brown/Barry Sanders

    Jim Brown

    Everyone else
  • Al Capone
Just another thread to give Browns fans something to feel good about. BTW didn't he and Franco have some kind of contest and Franco punked him?
  • mallymal614
I don't care how you feel about the man, but talking just on the FIELD, O.J. Simpson was the truth!

No, he only had Kevin Glover and Lomas Brown for the prime of their careers.

Sanders' line may not have been great, but it was still pretty good most years. It's certainly a lot better than anything Joey Harrington had in front of him.

lol Joey Harrington. I forgot all about him. Is he still in the league or kicking it somewhere with Tim Couch?

And David Carr, as long as we're talking about guys whose linemen should be charged with negligent homicide.

Don't think I'm knocking Sanders, but I do think the offensive line is regarded as being much worse than it was. There's also the fact that he had a LOT of plays that went for negative yardage.

    Jim Brown.

BUT, no one is exciting to watch as Barry Sanders.
  • Early Cuyler
    Barry Sanders

Emmitt better than Barry and Sweetness?
