He is probably going to go down as the best QB ever.

It's pretty much already a done deal.

he may need to win another super bowl to be considered greatest ever, but I agree he is in the discussion

I'm pleasantly surprised that the topic hasn't (yet) broken down into a bunch of illogical rants on why it's not deserved. Well done, Mr. Manning, you are one of the greats.

he needs to win more super bowls to go down as the best ever, he could also fart and the nfl would give him mvp, and peyton will not win a super bowl this year either

    Done deal???

I have him at #7 All time and don't see him moving up unless he wins at least 1 more Super Bowl and gets to a couple more.

    1. Montana
    2. Favre
    3. Brady
    4. Marino
    5. Elway
    6. Johhny Unitas
    7. Manning

    Marino over Manning???

Marino never won a Super Bowl and all his records are going to be passed by Manning.

He's the best QB to ever play the game, no doubt about it.
  • hoops23
The sad thing is, Philip Rivers was equally deserving... Can't argue with Manning winning it, but I think it could have been a co-MVP, similar to when Manning and McNair shared it..

    should have went to CJ

What's the logic in having Favre and Marino over Manning because Peyton needs to win and go to more super bowls?
  • ZombieKiller
I didn't pay attention earlier. But why do you have Unitas over Manning?
  • justincredible
Yeah, WTF puts Favre and Marino over Manning? You can't give Manning shit for winning only one SB when Marino has won zero and Favre has won one and Manning will clearly beat them in all passing statistics before he retires.
  • Ironman92
I'm not arguing....but let's name all the good RB's for Marino....he had a couple of good receivers for 5-7 years...but not Harrison and Wayne.....

Peyton Manning plays with a lot of talent and for a fantastic organization. He is a stud and the Colts organization is a machine itself. Just a great setting for a great quarterback to become the best. I'm a gigantic Brett Favre fan, he will always be my favorite and the greatest in my opinion. But he won't be the best; that is Payton Manning's.
  • BuckeyeBlue
If Manning's career were to end today, I would probably put him at 3 or 4 on my all time list. Behind Elway and Montana, and I flip-flop between him and Favre. However, his career is pretty likely to end today. The Colts organization did a great job of building around Peyton. They made sure to keep a top notch line in front of him to minimize the amount of punishment he'll take over his career. His receivers have been a force for years, and their running game isn't terrible (when Adai is healthy). With that said, I think Peyton is playing the position at a higher level than anybody else ever has. I would be shocked if when all is said and done, he doesn't hold every major passing record, and isn't widely regarded as the best ever.

And this MVP was very deserved. Peyton played great all season long, and was on the verge of leading his team to an undefeated season, but had the opportunity taken from him. Rivers, Brees, and Johnson were all very deserving as well, and I really don't think any one would have been a "wrong" choice here.

I second the MVP Award to Peyton Manning. He is simply a winner. I would agree however, that it doesn't hurt him to be in the Indianapolis organization. They have provided the perfect accompaniment for Peyton to flourish in basically a punishment free environment. The question is, given all of the advantages Peyton has had, how many other quarterbacks could come close to the success that he has enjoyed during his tenure In Indianapolis? A small handful at the very most.

Marino didn't have any running game whatsoever and didn't have the great recievers that Manning has had. and still put up incredible numbers when the defense knew they were going to pass. Favre also wasn't blessed with much of a running game or recievers and has won 1 Super Bowl and gotten to another.
Farve also played a lot of games in inclement weather where Manning played a lot of his games in domes.
