Looks like if the Eagles lose this weekend Heckert will be named the GM of the Cleveland Browns. Still a possibility that Will Lewis is hired in a lower capacity role.

Take it for what its worth!
Finally, The missing piece of the Lerner,Holmgren,Mangini train wreck. This should be entertaining. LOL
train wreck?? Are you speaking of the upcoming '10 season of Shitsburgh? How does it taste to get your ass kicked by the 4 bottom feeders of the NFL this year? You are an incompinent POS that should be banned for ignorance!

Let me preface this by saying that I am not a fan of Pittsburgh or Cleveland... but this idea that other fans should be "jealous" of Cleveland is kind of laughable to me.

    I like it!

You can laugh all you want. I didn't say fans should be jealous of Cleveland. I said HIS jealousy was showing.....as it clearly is.

I believe syphilis is what got him -- you know, a disease that pretty much destroys the brain. :)

Holmgren wants to build a great staff of talent evaluators. The more professional opinions you have, the better...

I have a feeling that Heckert will be scouting and watching tape, then telling Holmgren which guys at which positions he likes, which then Holmgren will take a look at...

I have a strong feeling that Holmgren, Heckert, and Mangini will all work together on the guys they pick up.. Holmgren wouldn't jockey Mangini around and not let him have ANY say on the type of players he gets. Mangini may not have much say in the overall scheme, but they'll definitely listen to him.

you're probably right but still. That's alot of dough for a guy who might be delegating a lot of decisions to others

Not really, either way it's not my money and Lerner has a train load of cash, so I'm sure he doesn't mind...

If he brings a winner to Cleveland, he'll more than make up for that cash..

You're paying for someone who has a vision and a plan -- and who will be in control of putting that plan together to make the franchise a success, not just for the short term but for years to come.

If Holmgren is successful in doing this, it's money well spent. And the only way to see if it's money well spent is to try it.

Holmgren has had a key role in rebuilding two franchises (Green Bay and Seattle), so it's not like there isn't a track record that shows he can do the job.

And at 62, he's probably not going to be around much longer than the length of his contract before he retires. So, he builds the organization with people who can step in and keep it running after he decides to call it a career.

About as entertaining as watching the refs hand Pitt two Super Bowls?

I hope this plan can turn the franchise into a consistent winner.

Heckert is a great talent evaluator, and advisor. He just wanted to get out of that crappy role he was at with Philly. He wasn't even really a GM, he was more of an assistant to Reid who handled most of the financial decisions.

Now he's "set free" for a lack of a better term.
  • ts1227
Looks like we can have him Monday unless the Eagles pull off an absolute miracle in the second half.

You have to come back with a stronger comeback than "the refs". It's like bringing a knife to a gun fight.

    ^^^^^^

see you in Cleveland on Monday Heckert.
  • Writerbuckeye
Given the score of the Philly game, I wonder what time the press conference will be on Monday.

As an aside to the actual topic...this just tells me that pro sports is filled with more gossip and rumors than a tabloid magazine. I watch ESPN, read blogs, etc. and I can't count the number of things they said would or wouldn't happen and then the opposite is true. Holmgren will never come to Cleveland, Mangini is gone for sure, Heckert will never go to Cleveland because he hates Mangini...it gets really old really fast.

Don't confuse sports "reporting" with real world reporting. It's a totally different animal -- well, it used to be.

Anymore, "real" reporting has become a lot like sports "reporting" in both quality, content and accuracy.

Any word on if there is an official press conference Monday? Or has it not been announced yet?
