Reds 4 game series at Giants

Thinking was Bronson may have more success in the big ballpark in SF. But he's already given up a bomb in the first inning, but its only one run thru 2 innings. Joey's bid to LF just short.

Total Busch league by Giants against Duvall. 2 runners on and all IF come charging in as pitcher is in windup and 2nd baseman in direct line....froze him for strike 3

In the 4th, Reds had two chances to score a runner from 3rd with less than 2 out. Only converted one, so tied the game but failed to take the lead. I can forgive Duvall for that motion play on the 3rd strike, but not for the way too hard of swings on the first 2 pitches. To defend the Giants and their fine manager, I don't see why it is wrong to conceal your decision to play the infield in after 2 strikes until the wind-up is in progress. All the time on bunt defense, infielders are charging on the corners or wheeling around in the middle infield -- just as much a distraction.

Big RBI by Cozart after Billy fails to get Scooter home after a lead-off triple. Reds lead 3-2, need 6 outs.
  • mhs95_06
The effort Scooter expended on calling that high, high pop-up distracted himself from picking up early that the wind was taking the ball away from him.

Excellent job by Wandy after the Scooter misplay put the Reds in jeopardy. No way the runner was going to beat him to first base on that 3rd out grounder to the right side.

    Great win for the Reds!

In the first inning with 2 on and 1 out, there is a play the demonstrates the tremendous difference in level of baserunning instinct between Cozart and Votto!

Scooter strikes again as the Reds take the lead as he triples in Schebler and then Barnhart knocks him in.

In the 8th, the Giants break the cardinal rule of making the 3rd out trying for 3rd.

Reds lost in 17 innings last night. That double sucks, we lost and our bullpen is shot.

Both starters are doing their jobs today, each with at least 7 innings pitched and 4 total runs in the game! Looks like 3 runs may win the game for the 3rd straight game.

Not looking good for the Reds to split the series as the Giants end up getting 4 runs in the first due to the 2 base error on a fly ball that Schebler drops in RCF from the lead-off hitter. He was knocked in by a solid double by the next batter, who went to 3rd on a ground out which should have been the 2nd out, then scored on what would have been a routine grounder to SS for the 3rd out. Subsequently 2 runs more scored and Duvall gets an unjust error on a perfect one hop throw trying to nail a sliding runner at home on which Mesoroco let get away from him which allowed the hitter to take 2nd. Talking about losing a game in the first inning, this is what it looks like! Fly balls seem to always be an adventure in SF!
