2016/2017 Hockey thread.

**Started with a bang with the number 1 pick in the draft getting 4 goals in his very first NHL game. One helluva debut for Matthews. Not sure there has ever been as impressive first game across the board in any sport.

**Reigning champs the Pens (sounds awesome, doesnt it?) are without Sid tonight. Apparently he is skating and working out so hopefully he out just a short time but Penguin fans all remember his other concussion issues that lasted for a very long time.

**Locally will the Jackets actually get off to a good, or at least decent, start this year? They started so bad last year they were basically out of it before thanksgiving.

Who ya all go this year? Will the Caps finally live up to their hype? Pens repeat?

You NEO fans can chime in as well with your Lake Erie Monsters defending their championship as well.....

Hoping the Pens have another good year. If not winning the title again, at least making a good run.

NHL's kind of like the NBA for me -- hard to get into until the playoffs just because of how many teams advance. Can't really get a gauge on anyone for so much of the year. A team can play like shit for a full month and then have a good month and be right back in the thick of things like that first month never really happened.

I start strong, wane a litte bit until the first of the year typically. Just such a long season. Last year the Pens surprised me after that bad start. Not sure when Murray will return so it is time for MAF to shine and try and get his job back and then the decision on what to do. Murray a one year, well, partial year wonder or the future and will MAF be the good backup if that is how it pans out?

Good start for the Pens getting the win. MAF gave up a bad goal early but they fought back. Entertaining first 10 mins that is for sure to start the season. Dont need to light the world on fire early, just play well, stay healthy and be there late in the season.

Stick RPG 2 unblocked I am not quite sure about it.

Shitty that Columbus and Pittsburgh likely will play in round 1. Possibly the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the NHL. So stupid. Good news, probably will be able to get double face value or more for the playoff tickets.

NHL not participating in the Olympics next summer. Huge hit.

    Will players go anyway?
  • cat_lover
I don't see how the players could go. If the NHL refuses to shut down during that time frame I would think the players would be required to play for their NHL team.

1-0. Wasn't expecting to see MAF out there, but he got it done. Got stormed in the first period, but gave up nothing.
  • queencitybuckeye
I'm not usually a blame the refs guy, but that period was a fucking prison offense.

Bobrovsky has been bad in the playoffs. Only chance CBJ would've been able to do much is with him playing as he did all year. He's just been good, not close to great.

Blue jackets giving this game away. Up 3-1 you gotta bury the pens. They didn't and now they're tied.
  • Azubuike24
Lucky to tie it. Looked like it was over when the Pens went up 4-3.

Columbus is maybe the worst playoff organization in the league. Just getting skull fucked here by a team clearly more prepared

How are the Red Wings playing?
  • Azubuike24
The Jackets lack a true finisher on offense. A TON of solid players, but you could see the difference having Malkin/Crosby and going with an offense where you need everyone to play.

From someone who has watched almost every game, honestly, the Jackets can't play that much better than they have in this series. Sure, Bob could've been better and they could've been tighter with the puck at times, but it's not like they have not shown up.

I was at the game 2 years ago where the Blue Jackets jumped out to a 3-1 lead on the Pens and lost. I was also there last night and my son was so excited when we were up 3-1 less than 7 minutes into the game. I reminded him of that game. Then it happened again. So frustrating. You could hear a pin drop after that OT goal....it was pretty somber at Nationwide.

I was happy. That's all that matters. All that ever matters.

I was mildly paying attention to hockey scores tonight. I'm pretty sure at one point in the second Calgary was up 4-1. Anaheim ended up winning 5-4 in overtime.

Cream rose to the top in Round 1.

Not NHL but the Toledo Walleye have a 3-1 currently in Game 7 of their first round series. Sellout crowd of 8,000 for tonight's game, that's insane for a Tuesday scheduled 48 hours ago
