[Native American Joke Redacted] Tribe @ Braves- Series Thread

  • TBone14
The red hot Iroquois of Ohio storm down south to take on the Cherokees of Georgia.

The Iroquois recently set fire to the Wigwams of another local Lake Erie tribe and pillaged the village leaving nothing behind. The Cherokees of Georgia recently started to perform better but have reverted back to form and dropped 3 of 5.

The Iroquiois fire twirlers have been tremendous notching complete games in 3 of 5 contests with 'Man with Slowest Arm' only managing 8 strong innings in yesterday's battle.

    All games at 7:10

    Monday
    Bauer vs Gant

    Tuesday
    Kluber vs Wisler

    Wednesday
Salazar vs TBD (Still unbeaten this year)

    Go Tribe.

Man, just thinking about how do you pick 3 rotation pitchers out of Bauer, Kluber, Salazar, and Carrasco if/when we make the playoffs!

Even Tomlin and Bauer, our 4 and 5, are a combined 14-2 and their ERAs are around 3.3 each.

I mean Kluber has the worst ERA of the whole rotation at about 3.5 but his WHIP (total walks/hits per IP) is the lowest of the team at 1.01.

3 of our 5 are in the top 10 in the AL in ERA (Tomlin, Bauer, and Salazar, our 3/4/5).

Our team ERA is a full .35 better than any team in the AL.

Our team pitching stats look like a top NL team that gets to pitch to pitchers.

With this starting rotation, this team just needs to make it to the playoffs (no WC anything can happen in 1 game, first series a divisional) and I give them the odds on favorite to beat anyone in MLB with this pitching in October.

I was excited for the city and the Cavs even though I hate basketball. Being a huge baseball fan I am more excited to see how this summer plays out.

I was honestly just coming back to say just that about my own post, that it was a nice problem to have.

As much as the mid/late 90s teams were "fun" due to the offensive output, this team gets me more excited due to their potential in the post season.

I think we need to pursue a bat at the deadline...probably an outfielder because I don't think a big hitting 3B will be available. As well as Lonnie and Uribe have been going, they are weak point. Rumors of the Tribe potentially pursuing Carlos Beltran. It also never hurts to bolster the bullpen.

Who else is out there that might be a good fit?
  • Laley23
We need a bullpen guy and a hitter.

But I don't think Lonnie is a weak spot. He has been very solid all year and seems to be taking steps forward each season. Might have finally figured something out.

Beltran doesn't interest me, unless he is cheap. I've heard we may go after a power bat who we control for 2.5 years like Ubaldo, and part with Frazier or Zimmer.

Ok. So assuming Brantley comes back and is even 80% of what he has been...he's set in left. Unless Rajai falls off the earth...I like him in center. Plus defense and I love his speed and what he can do on the bases. He can manufacture runs in tight games down the stretch and potential playoff games when runs seem to be so tough to get. Then Big Lonnie in right.

So 3rd base is the only logical option. Lindor, Kipnis and Napoli are set. Santana at DH. What 3B options might be out there?

Brantley is the question mark? If/when can he comeback and how is he going to be? Also...Almonte's suspension is almost over...what is going to happen with him?
  • jmog
We do need another bat and a bullpen pitcher, I agree. I just hope we don't give up 1 of the 5 current starting pitchers to do so.
  • iclfan2
I've heard people mention Jay Bruce, but I don't want him if it means giving up a prospect. He has 17 homers but not that great of an average. I'm still holding out a slight hope that Brantley can come up at some point. May have a little less power temporarily but so be it.
  • TBone14
Bruce is batting .279 this year which is good considering his power. However, it could be a blip. He batted .226 and .217 the last two years and is career .250.
  • jmog
I agree with the article I read from the plain dealer the other day.

Don't trade for a one year player, only trade a prospect if its for someone that is under contract for a few years.
  • HitsRus
Nope....right now I'd stand pat unless we are not getting Brantley back. You could talk me into a BP upgrade or at 3B if the price is right...but I'm not going to mortgage the future.

It's easy...you pick the guys who are polished pitchers, who can limit damage and not give up the big inning. Bauer and Salazar are not there yet.
That said, they might be by the end of the year. But if the playoffs started tomorrow, I would go with whoever has the hottest hand between Carrasco and Kluber, and the #3 guy would be Tomlin.
  • Laley23
Guys, Brantley ain't helping this team this year, imho.
  • TBone14
Tribe up 1 in the 3rd. Atlanta starter just hurt himself throwing a 1-2 pitch to Bauer and Braves going to the pen early.

I know Gimenez has been Bauer's personal catcher but is there any reason Santana can't catch for 2 days to keep his bat in the lineup? Or is catching in the Bigs so difficult that you can't just jump back into it for 2 games?

Lindor with an ugly pick off. 4-2 going into the bottom of the 6th.

    Concussion concerns. That poor s o b ' s forehead is a baseball magnet.
  • TBone14
Santana pinch hits for Bauer and delivers an RBI single. Bauer's night is over. Didn't have nearly his best stuff but only allowed 2 over 6 innings. 5 hits and 3 walks and in line for the victory if the bullpen can hold the lead.

Santana pinch hits for Bauer and gets the job done. 5-2. Bases loaded with 1 out

Ugh Lindor hits into dp to end that threat. They did have bases loaded no outs and the fly pop to center couldn't score Giminez on third (didn't send him)
