Randy Johnson retires

  • Lovejoy1984
He had a heck of a career. Should be the last pitcher to win 300 for quite sometime.

The guy threw BB's. Hall of famer easy.

Big Unit had a devastating slider and a deadly fastball...

  • End of Line
The big unit had a great career.

Always loved watching Randy Johnson. Dude was one of the best.

Maybe the best left hander of all time? At least in the discussion...
  • Nate
One of the best lefties of all time.

    Definitely in the discussion.

It's him or Koufax, and my edge goes to Sandy.
  • gerb131
Warren Spahn prob still the best lefty of all time but RJ is 1B

I would put the Big Unit slightly behind Steve Carlton.

    Steve Carlton
    Warren Spahn
    The Unit.

The Randy Johnson vs. John Kruk at-bat in the All-Star game (I forget the year)...remains a classic memory...the Big Unit coming in high and hard against Kruk, and he is bailing out the whole time.

    1st ballot HOF.

he's obviously a first ballot, but he should be a unanimous selection as well. I'm not sure that's ever happened, some douche will leave him off though.

^^^I believe Tom Seaver currently has the highest percentage vote for any first ballot electee....I doubt Johnson will eclipse it, though he may deserve to. A lot of politics in HOF election when you leave it in the hands of the writers. Probably Greg Maddux will be the next "near-unanimous" electee, also.

The "Unit" had a tremendous career and I can't imagine anyone leaving him off their ballot, but as has been so eloquently stated by a previous poster...".....some douche will leave him off though." Absolutely. There is always going to be that one individual that wants to be different. I would love to hear arguments against Johnson going into the "Hall" on the first ballot. I can't even guess what they would be.

One of the best lefties ever. Certainly up there with Koufax, Walter Johnson, Steve Carlton, Whitey Ford, etc. For a while one of the hardest throwers in the game and just had that rediculous slider....

Perhaps the last pitcher to win 300 games as it will be quite some time before anyone else reaches that milestone. Back in his prime, he was one of the most dominant pitchers I have ever seen. High 90's heat mixed with great breaking stuff and batters just had no chance. Should be a first ballot hall of famer but writers are stupid sometimes but I doubt they screw this one up.
