Tribe at Red Sox

  • HitsRus
The Indians travel to Boston for a weekend series, fresh off of a 4 game sweep of the struggling Reds.
Kluber takes on Bucholz in the lid lifter tonite.... Bauer and Salazar will pitch tomorrow and Sunday.

Tribe up 4-2. Kipnis had a 3 run homer and Lindor had an awesome slide after a great throw on a sac fly from Bradley jr.

Just now rajai Davis got called out on a check swing that hit his hand and they called it a strike and not a foul ball (on replay it wasn't a swing but can't challenge). My question, if not swinging and it hits your hand it isn't a hbp bc your "hand is part of the bat", then how is that not the case while swinging? Seems like it should just be a foul ball.

If you get hit by a pitch swinging it is always a strike. I have never heard of a pitch to the hand on a no-swing not being awarded a base.

Uribe--no stick, no glove, out of shape...what value?

Or play Ramirez there when Byrd is also in the OF. Haven't been impressed with his hitting or fielding.

Good win after falling behind early.

I realize it is a strike, but didn't realize it is a dead ball strike 3 if having 2 strikes. And I was probably thinking of a hand getting hit swinging not being awarded first. It was just a weird play that they ended up talking about for 10 minutes.

I wasn't watching the game at the time, and I'm not an umpire, but I've coached baseball/softball for 20+ years and I spent a night once in a Holiday Inn............My understanding of the rule of the rule is that the hands are NOT part of the bat in any circumstances despite what a lot of people think.

If you get hit in the hands (no part of the ball hits the bat) and you are NOT swinging, it is a "hit by pitch" and you get first base just as if you were stuck elsewhere on the body.

If you get hit in the hands (and no part of the ball touches the bat) and you are swinging, it is a strike. as no part of the bat touched the ball during a swing.
The controversy usually is what happens if you swing and it hits the hands and the bat.,,,, My understanding is that the ball is immediately dead when the ball strikes a part of the body and the "swing or no swing" ruling takes effect....i.e. if a swing was in progress it is a swinging strike, if the batter was not swinging or checked the swing, it is a hit by pitch..
If Davis swung and the ball hit his hands first and then glanced of the bat, it is a swinging strike...not a foul ball.

You are correct hits, once I looked it up it made more sense.

Indians are now tied in the loss column with the White Sox. As good as we can hope with Brantley and Carrasco out. Hopefully we can get both of them back soon.

Ursula has been hurt. But I'd like to see j ram play third more regularly which I think he will once Brantley is back

Interesting combo for Monday. Clevinger and Anderson both starting for the double header.

Jose has been on fire, and makes the decision to allow Mike Aviles go look genius.

The Tribe was pummeled by the BoSox yesterday 9-1. Bauer took the loss, pitching into the 6th inning giving up 4 runs. The team's lone run didn't come until the 9th when Carlos Santana hit a meaningless solo blast. The Tribe did not even get a hit until two outs in the 7th when Uribe broke up Joe Kelly's no hitter with a double.

Danny Salazar will pitch the afternoon tilt today in the runner game of the 3 game series.

Salazar can't get it done....Tribe loses 5-2....and the series.

My thread starting streak is over....someone else will need to step up for the ChiSox series.
