Jumbo Diaz didn't give up a run while the Indians bullpen is working on blowing the game. What world am I living in?

Time for the Indians bullpen go suck it up. Regardless, clevinger looked better than Anderson has. Still didn't make it out of 5 though.

Ohlendorf had them fooled....I def would've left him in as long as they didn't see him a second time. Every time you bring in a new guy you just keep increasing the chances of one of them being off.

If you look good....you gotta pitch the next inning for this team

He went 6.1. And actually struck people out. I'm on board for the rest of the year over Anderson.

The Reds pen has won so many games, for other teams.

Collectively atrocious but for last night I'm giving that L to Price. Ohlendorf was fooling them, leave him in

Ahh yea, I messed up what inning he got taken out. And I agree, he looked much better, not giving runs up every freaking inning. I don't care if I ever see Anderson again. I'm not sure what they will do when Carrasco comes back, mainly with Bauer. He has looked good lately.

Nice homer by Lindor in extras. And Cody Allen looked really good even not in a save situation.

How long before paper bags are being worn at the games?

By who? The 12,000 fans who are clueless and go for the weather, free pizza and bobbleheads? Most of the hardcore fans who have a clue aren't going to games.
  • thavoice
With this staff they aint getting those free pizza nights like in the past! Unfortunately yeah there are fans, many many fans go for anything but the actual game itself and it drives me nuts to listen to them. Couple years ago two uggos in front of me noticed Votto wasn't playing (it was like the 7th inning). 1 thought he was just taken out (he didn't play at all) 1 said he had been traded weeks ago and then they went on arguing why did they trade the best player. That lasted until the 9th and free pizza was the topic. So they then sent one person to the concourse to wait for the free pizza when the next K happened. SHe was disappointed and came down to their seats when she realized you did not get it then. The next bozo then said 'oh yeah, I think the la rosa truck is outside the stadium and you get it when you walk out'.

    Sad times..sad times!

    Lol, exactly.

...and unfortunately, the front office knows it. The fans who go now (the Reds are 26th in MLB in attendance, 21K a game although many are helped by hosting the Cubs) are a very inelastic sector of the market. They should be able to draw the 12-15K every night during the summer regardless of the quality of the team on the field, the names on the uniforms or the record in the standings.

In fact, baseball has almost become the poster child for this. The White Sox have one of the best records in the league and are in the 3rd biggest market in the country...they are averaging 19K a game. The Marlins, with a new stadium and record over .500 are even worse.

Marketing and it has to be the 'cool thing to do'. When they win, it is 'cooler' to go and more and more just show up.

Hell, look at the Dayton Dragons. Rarely are they in contention and who cares if they are...only low A ball, but they own the longest consecutive sellout streak in sports history because.....it is the cool thing to do in the Dayton area.
I personally enjoy MiLB more in Dayton and Ft Wayne and Columbus. Maybe it is just the overall value, better seating and less about the names on the uniforms but the game of baseball myself (yet many go for the giveaways/something to do).

..and the ironic thing, the wife wants to go Saturday. Mentioned that all she wanted was the Griffey bobblehead but insisted because it is military appreciation day. Either way I am not wanting to go and waste a perfectly good weather day but we shall see.

It just kind of stinks. Look at the Braves? God awful. Maybe the worst MLB team in the last half-century. They are still in the top 20 in attendance. Look at the Braves when they were good in the last decade? They never sold out...weren't ever close. It's a myth that butts in the seats really have any impact on the decisions made with the team.

The Reds could spend 200M a year and be the best team in baseball, and they still wouldn't crack the top 10 in attendance.

Would need to avg 33,333 based on last years top ten, to crack it and last year they avg just less than 30 and they sucked.

Agreed though, butts in seats is just a very small $$$ the team gets!

I'll head down 3 or 4 times once I get time after early July. We enjoy going and I'll hit teams we like to watch when choosing.

Yeah, this year may be more about wanting to watch an opponent. Kid I coached is on the Pirates right now and would like to see him pitch so maybe head down then if he stops getting knocked around and stays with them.
