Tribe heads to Houston

  • BRF
Our Tribe comes off an excellent homestand to visit the Astros for a three game set.

Game 1 will feature Kluber vs. Fiers and starts at 8:10.

Game 2 has Bauer vs. Devenski and also starts at 8:10.

Game 3 is a 2:10 start with Salazar going against Fister.

    Go Tribe.

I expect another sweep. Pitching sucks and our bats have gone silent.

When Kluber won the Cy Young, wasn't he consistently 95-96 MPH? I don't think I've seen him top 94 this year but I haven't seen every pitch he's thrown.

Jeff Passan at Yahoo Sports had a good column up today (his weekly 10 Degrees) about the number of ace-caliber pitchers who've suffered notable declines in velocity this year. I don't recall seeing Kluber's name mentioned, but that doesn't mean he's not down a bit.

I saw a stat the other day on Twitter about it. His CYA velocity versus the other day when he went CG SHO. He was right about even (less than 1 MPH difference on all pitches, some higher some slower).

Dont know about the season as a whole, but for that start it was even. Think it was
    MLBastian who had it.
  • Laley23
    Found it.

Compared to last year, not CYA year. But yeah, it's down this year, but I think up more recently.

Could the ace of the staff actually be Josh Tomlin?
  • TBone14
I missed the first two innings. Turned it on in the 3rd with 2 runs in already and Kluber didn't throw a pitch faster than 91 and obviously gave up 3 more and didn't get out of the inning. Something isn't right.

    Trevor Bauer dealing tonite!,,,,,Tribe wins 4-0! :)

Good game. Bauer making a strong argument to not go back into the pen. Seems like a no brainer... Let's take this day game today and win a series on the road.

You spelled Danny Salazar wrong. I get that Tomlin's got 5 wins...but he's benefited from some scoring, whereas Salazar has given up 4 runs total in both losses with a 1.91 ERA. Would like to see this team at full strength and healthy soon.

I'd like to see if he could help us from the bullpen

Another solid outing for Bauer. I really hate his body language and mannerisms sometimes. I don't mind some fire but some of the reactions to borderline pitches not going his way are really ridiculous. That's not the way to get umpires on your side.

Tomlin is the better "pitcher" (which is not the same as saying he has better stuff)...Salazar still has some things to learn.
  • iclfan2
Wow, Salazar loaded the bases with no outs and then proceeded to strike out the side... Amazing. A lot of pitches for one inning though. Big fan of listening to day time baseball at work.

Another squeak by inning in the 2nd. Intentionally walk a guy to have 1st and 2nd 2 outs, then walks the next guy. Salazar is definitely keeping it interesting. Going to have to use the bullpen today. Thank goodness Bauer helped them last night and an off day tomorrow.

1-0 tribe, kipnis with the rbi, scoring Chisenhall who moved over on an error on a pickoff.

I'll politely disagree. But to each their own...

I'd agree more with you. I do agree that Salazar has things to learn, as he does have control breakdowns (such as today) which can prevent him from going deep into starts AND he has had a lot of starts where one thing leads to another and what had been a good start snowballs into a bad one.

But Tomlin is a mid-to-lower end starter and nothing he's done in his career had indicated he's more than that. He's only had two quality starts in five tries this year, but has been helped by the team averaging over 5.5 runs in his starts. To his benefit, he's been a lot better last year and this year than in the past and he's good at avoiding the free pass, but still, for his career, he's been average at best. Probably right now, he's a better-than-average #4 starter.

Free baseball... Top of 11... 3-3. If we can win this thing it will feel like stealing

The QS thing is a bit skewed. Tito for whatever reason takes him out around 75 pitches.

EDIT: Just looked it up, and none of the short outings because of PC wouldve resulted in a QS anyway lol.
