Royals @ Tribe- Royally Screwed If We Don't Win This Series

TBone14Tribe get 2 aboard but Almonte and Urshela strikeout back to back to end the threat.
Tomlin with another quality start but the Tribe offense appear likely to let it go to waste.

TBone14Tomlin goes 9. Tribe will need a blown save to get him off the hook.
To the bottom of the 9th. If we have any magic in us for this year...now is the time for it.

TBone14Tribe get the 1st two on in the 9th. Tito pinch hits Aviles for Sands and Aviles nearly bunts into a double play. Didn't love giving Holland an out as he was really struggling.
Almonte popped out and Urshela struck out to end it.
Damn

Laley23WHY THE FUCK DO MANAGERS STILL SACRIFICE BUNT!?!?! It doesn't work. It's a horrible play, and the stats back it up. For an organization that is into saber metrics the way the tribe are, it's unreal that they continue to do old fashioned stuff like this. Outdated and ineffective.

What's worse is that it plays for a tie when winning the game is ultimate goal. Holland walked Lonnie on 5 and the 3-0 pitch was a generous strike call. Then Gomes hit a freaking seed for a knock.Laley23;1751064 wrote:WHY THE FUCK DO MANAGERS STILL SACRIFICE BUNT!?!?! It doesn't work. It's a horrible play, and the stats back it up. Holland didn't have it right then and giving him an out snapped him out of it.
The only thing worse than the suboptimal decision was the execution. Holland missed the first pitch to Aviles by a foot and then Aviles bunts ball 2 straight up in the air. Make the guy throw a strike. He had to groove one to Gomes to get one over and Gomes ripped it.

FootwedgeAnother boneheaded decision by the manager. With that said tribe will need an upgrade in center field and 3rd base next season.

HitsRusBetter than half the managers in the league are going to call that bunt late in a game. I don't like it personally, but the three at bats that followed were three of the worst ABs I've seen this season. Aviles was way too anxious and failed to execute a simple play. Almonte and Urshela looked terrible ALL night....Almonte's swing tonite was pathetically looooong. I'm not sure what he was trying to do, but he needs a session with the hitting coach before they let him bat again. The Tribe had plenty of opportunities and just choked on the clutch hit....and those two guys were in the middle of it.

Ironman92The Royals hit a HR and the Cleveland guy set off fireworks accidentally? Lol
-
HitsRusyeah...SMH. The guy was pretty embarrassed.
-
HitsRusThe loss last nite coupled with the Rangers jumping Houston, resulted in a half gme loss in the WC standings...Tribe now 5 out with 19 to play

Heretic
That was a great moment in TV. I snagged a pic of the dude for Facebook and woke up today to see that Deadspin and virtually everyone else also had caught the moment.Ironman92;1751083 wrote:The Royals hit a HR and the Cleveland guy set off fireworks accidentally? Lol
We were just watching baseball and talking and heard the crowd booing like crazy and saw the dude with his head in his hands, so we wondered what happened and rewound to hear what had happened. Brought the lulz. -
HitsRusPretty sad when that is the highlight of the game, rather than the walkoff HR we didn't get

BRFNormally, I don't have a problem with bunting but not in that situation last night. The fact that the pitcher was struggling was the factor for me.

TBone14
For me, it's what would the other team/manager want me to do? I guarantee Yost was happy they gave him an out and took the bat out of hands of a guy like Sands would could end it and then leave it up to Urshela/Almonte.BRF;1751174 wrote:Normally, I don't have a problem with bunting but not in that situation last night. If it's the 9th hitter and you are flipping over to the top of the order...I don't hate it as much because it will stop the 9th hitter from hitting into a killer DP. Either way, it was poorly executed by Aviles. -
Laley23
Thats cause your old school. Statistics prove it is one of the worst plays you can make/do in baseball. Why anyone would ever do it, sans a lead off double in the bottom of the 9th in a tie game, is beyond my comprehension.BRF;1751174 wrote:Normally, I don't have a problem with bunting but not in that situation last night. You are right, grasshopper! And a retired teacher, too.Laley23;1751189 wrote:That's because you're old school.
With all the computer shit available for managers to use, I wonder why sacrifice bunts are still used in today's game. Are they used only by the old school guys? -
HitsRusHindsight is 20-20. If he leaves Sands in, and he hits into a DP, people are going to question why he didn't bunt and move the tieing run into scoring position playing at home. I'm more upset at the poor execution, and the poor ABs put up by the final 3 hitters in such a critical situation.

Laley23
I assure you I wouldn't.HitsRus;1751218 wrote:Hindsight is 20-20. TBone14Tribe up 4-0 and still hitting in the 2nd.
Lindor with a solo homer in the first and 3 2 out runs in the 2nd...capped with a 2 out, 2 run single by Lindor.

TBone14Tribe up 5-1 in the 7th. Lindor 4 RBIs.

Laley23Lindor is something special. Really hope he doesn't have a sophomore slump.
-
TBone14Agreed. Looks to be a budding star and he only looks more and more comfortable with each at bat.
Around the league...Rangers thumping the Astros again. Twins down early to Detroit. Angels in Seattle later.

HitsRus4 games behind...18 to go.

FootwedgeLindor with 41 RBI's in half a season Kipnis with 48 RBI's for whole season. Chances of getting in are less than 1%. Pretty much need to go 5-2 against the Twins. Again...please no more Trevor Bauer.

Al Bundy
The simulators I have seen put the tribe's playoff chances at anywhere between 6% to 9%. I'm quite certain that your math is more accurate than theirs. Just for the lulz, can you show us your math?Footwedge;1751350 wrote:Lindor with 41 RBI's in half a season Kipnis with 48 RBI's for whole season. Chances of getting in are less than 1%.
