baseball new slide of the year

I saw it for the first time this year in July an an American Legion district playoff game and twice this month in a Reds game, a couple weeks ago by Pena and tonight by Frazier. All of them were mistake decisions to try to go for home, but all three worked out when the throw beat the runner to home and the person covering home(catcher or P) lost their balance in trying to get the tag down quickly. In all 3 cases the runner slid early stopping about a yard short of the plate, popped up on their feet, took a sidestep, saw a portion of the plate open, and stabbed their foot onto it, and were correctly called safe.

Better techniques catch on, like the SS throwing the ball on the bounce to 1B, outfielders sliding into catches in dangerous situations especially near walls, and outfielders and infielders sliding into their attempt to glove the ball to slow their momentum that is going in the opposite direction and plant their foot to get a strong throw off ASAP.

Baseball, an old and good game for which techniques are constantly improving, but the percentage of them that are mastered by the average player are becoming less and less!
