    That Dominicans aren't very smart?

Good god if people are going to get plastered for that, I wouldn't want to be a public figure in this age.

I wouldn't call being told not to come back for your 2nd week of a two-week notice being fired, but hey that's just me

Really? He basically said the DR isn't known for having quality academics which is true. Can you name a respectable university in the DR? Reality is reality; when are you going to stop being such a *****?

It's a stupid comment that doesn't need to be said. Overgeneralizations and clearly racist remarks just need to go away.

I'm tired of hearing about it all as the next guy. But, no one is fixing it and just focusing on sports. Stupid to even bring it up.

Why is it stupid to state the truth?

How was it a stupid comment? Is there a huge group of super intelligent Dominicans that Americans just don't know about?

It's probably (I don't really feel like researching it) close to a fact that the Dominicans are not an overall intelligent people.

In the context he said it, it was pure stupidity because it was making an apples-to-oranges comparison. Any negative truths about the education of Dominicans has nothing to do with the complexity of baseball. This is a country where baseball is the #1 pastime; a lot of kids there probably put more effort into that than they do academics. To look at what he said as the "truth", you'd have to be in full agreement that people that don't live in a good academic setting are inherently stupid, which would be like telling a mechanic that if he doesn't have a Master's, you don't want him working on your car (because, you know, a person who isn't "book-smart" can be very intelligent in a different field if they work at it).

It was more like taking one truth, misapplying it to a situation and coming up with an answer that was, at best, hilariously insulting and patronizing to a people. With that said, if he was on a long-term contract with ESPN, he'd probably have gotten the "Simmons punishment" where he'd be suspended for a short period of time, in effect getting a mid-summer vacation. He's gone because he would have been gone naturally in a week. It allows ESPN to look good, while in reality, doing nothing more than they normally would do.
