    I can't go along with that! He walks the lead-off hitter too much, and he lucks out and doesn't get hurt too bad from it, including tonight being bailed out by Byrd. If he doesn't get hurt bad by bad control early in the inning, he won't buckle down and do better!

    He's given up 3 runs in 13 innings. He's been solid.

    Byrd bailed him out, yes. But he's also the reason for having to bail him out. He dove for a ball that he had zero chance of catching. And then he gave up a hit that went off Joey's glove.

    And if I'm reading this chart correctly(which I think I am) on baseball reference, tonight was he first time he walked he first batter he faced.

    Cingrani is the best option outside of Chapman. IMO, he needs a role, and not be jacked around. He's been used a ton and then not used. Now that Gregg is gone, I think it's pretty clear that Cingrani is the guy rotating with Diaz/Hoover from the right.

    Billy Hamilton, 0.259 OBP, needs to be moved to 9th in the order with the P #8. Keep the order the same, just keep him from leading off in the 1st - he doesn't deserve that many ABs. He kills the 1st inning too many times, an inning when you need good ABs because it is a prime scoring inning as the SPs are not yet settled in.

    I'm sticking with lucky rather than solid, not to say he won't be solid as time goes on. How many times has he gone 3-0 on the first hitter, and then lucked out and got him out. Just seems to me he has a lack of concentration on the first few pitches to the first batter.

    Cingrani is fine but agree with buike, he needs a role. Young guys like that (especially him who was a starter last year) need a specific role so they can mold into it.

    I agree that Cingrani is the best option, but I have to wonder about Price if he thought going into the season that Gregg was a better option. I know they wanted tony as the long man in the pen, but the long guy shouldnt be as solid a pitcher as Cingrani. Long men dont get used often. Only when you are usually down big time and who cares who pitches, or an injury to a starter early on.
    I think it was a bad choice to have him as the long man to begin with

    Normally, yes. But I think the expectation was that the rotation was not going to be very good outside of Cueto and Leake to start the year. So my guess is they thought they'd need a long man a lot more given the fact that guys like Marquis weren't going to be the ones to give you 8 innings every time out.

    If you're needing a long man, you're probably fucked more often than not anyway. Saving a former starter, with good stuff and a lefty for such situations is a gross misuse of talent. Then again, this is the Reds...

    I get what you are saying but I dont agree.
    Why place one of your better pitchers in a situation where, if he gets in during long relief, you are mostly likely down 3-5 runs early and have to take out the starter? You can have a guy like Chapman do a role like that and you still are going to lose at a 95% clip. You put an also ran in that situation and guy like Cingrani in a spot where the games are tight.
