@Ken_Rosenthal: Wow! RT @matthewpouliot: If Kluber is done, it's the highest Game Score (98) in an eight-inning outing since at least 1914 and probably ever

As I was watching, I was thinking it was on par to what Kershaw did last year. And that was the greatest pitched game I had seen, ever.

    Allen closes the game....

... And that, Ironman, is how you beat the Cardinals!

Yes. All it takes is scoring in only 1 inning and one of the greatest pitching performances in the last decade+ for the Tribe to get a win.

Too bad you weren't there tonight. For all the shitty games you have likely endured this would have been one you'd likely never see again as far as dominance goes.

What was Kerry Wood's pitching score in his 20 K 1 hit game? That was the filthiest performance I have ever seen.

    105, the highest ever.

That good, especially since I thought 100 was max.

I think 112 is highest. Which is a CG SO game with 27 strikeouts. It's basically a point per out, K, inning and you start with 50...

Pretty good article from the Worldwide Leader. Tito is quoted as basically saying it was Brad Mills' call.

They make the argument I was making; if it was still a no hitter, he would have been back out there. But this feat is so much more than a no hitter (there have been 14 since 2010). If he retired the side in order and struck out 2 hitters, it would have matched Kerry Wood as the highest game score of all time at 105. If he were to strike out the side, he would have pitched the arguably greatest game in the history of baseball with a CG shutout, 1 hit, no walks and 21 strikeouts. There is no evidence to suggest that a 29 year old pitcher with no history of arm trouble is more at risk throwing 130 pitches than 113.

He should have been out there...if he wanted to be. It should have been Kluber's call.

Kluber's performance reminded me of the Tribe, back in the day, when a pitcher would have a dominant performance (Eckersley no-hitter, Barker perfect game) for an otherwise shitty team, making it the highlight of that season. Granted, it's early but I don't expect this team to be in it at the end.

IIRC, STO has been replaying Barker game on (or near) May 15th for the past couple years.

This is the first i have ever heard of a 'pitching' score.
Also heard a new one earlier about how the brewers catcher led the league last year in 'framing' pitches. How do they track that? It was perfect though...just hours before we heard that on the telecast I was teaching my step son how to receive and 'frame' pitches as a catcher!

No hitter and he goes back out. A 1 run game...maybe as well.

How do you think one would track that?

You count the number of times a catcher frames a pitch that would normally be called a ball but instead is called a strike.

and they know it was called a strike because the catcher framed it (and the box shows it wasnt a strike) or was it because the umpire thought it was a strike without the frame job? I am going to say there is no way of knowing for sure. Sure, there is a proper way to receive the pitch on the edges of the zone to make it look better but I am not so sure you can accurately say it was the frame job or the ump thinking it was strike without it.

Unless they are just going on the amount of called strikes just outside the zone.

Tribe leaving runners all over the bases in the first two innings today but let Wacha off the hook without scoring.....always comes back to haunt you :(
  • BRF
    I agree with TBone.

He's pitching well, why gamble by bringing in someone from the bull pen?

That's a mostly accurate description. You're better off scouring the internet for a more precise definition than any I can give you off the top of my head.
