Pete Carroll you are dumb

As I posted up above, they only had one time out left. If they run the ball and not gotten in, then they would have had to call their last time out...probably with 13 seconds left. Now, they would have to throw it on third down.

Throwing the ball on second down was actually the right thing to do. Throwing a pick was the wrong thing to do.

    I
They could have or passed on 4th down because the clock would no longer matter. With that said, you give the ball to a back of that quality on second down.

If you were Lynch, you'd know how to shut up.

Colossal coaching blunder couldn't have happened to better guy!!!

This was the first thing I thought when he threw it. I thought "fixed....they want Brady to get a fourth ring before he retires" but it's too conspiracy theorish.
  • rrfan
Could have thrown it to Lynch for an easy TD. Worst call I have ever seen.

ESPN talked about all the conspiracy theories are saying they (whoever they is...) didn't want Lynch to win the MVP is why it was a pass play.
  • like_that
This conspiracy theory is just as dumb as the people who thought the pats won the SB after 9/11 because they are the "patriots."
  • Automatik
I was drunk when I said thoughts of it being rigged came to mind. Not rigged, just stupid.

Eh, they would just blindly give it to the QB like they do for most awards, that is an easy workaround

Colin Cowherd has a nice take on this.

    Hope this helps...

Did not hear that, but even if Lynch carries the ball and gets the TD he doesnt win the MVP.

7 times this season Lynch got the ball at the 1. He scored 3 times.
With that said, I would still have given him the ball.

I think of they ran that play 100 times, 65 times it is a TD, 34 it is incomplete, and 1 is a INT. Dude made a great play. Most times the DB doesnt make that INT if he gets there at that time. A little better throw by Russell and it is a TD as well.

    Exactly.
In a world where if you have 3 people involved in something it eventually comes out and when you consider how many people would have to be in on some conspiracy like the NFL is fixed and no one comes out and admits it?

On the animal house Bull just stated that 66% of passing plays went for touchdowns from the 1 yard line. People that complain about the call need to have their heads examined. Put the blame on who deserves the blame. Wilson...not Carroll.
  • Automatik
DB made a great play also, still one of the worst calls of all time.

Carroll's explanation. I didn't watch yet because at work.

I put more praise on the DB than blame on Wilson. It was a good enough pass. If you take a look at how the break he had on the ball.......that gets intercepted very, very rarely.

I am a firm believer that any play called can get the job done if executed correctly, but also believe that coaches need to put the players in the best position to win and succeed. If they had to do it again.......you know they would run the ball.

As for Carroll's explanation......eh, he is just trying to be civil about it and take the blame.

I don't think it was that bad of a call. I understand the explanation of the coach. It's hard for me to have any sympathy for the Seahawk fans, being that they won the dang thing just last year.

There will always be a plausible explanation...i.e. the defense dictates what sort of play to call, but Lynch or Russell needed to be running that ball. Had they even ran that read option play much at all? Last week they fell back on it late in the game. Whenyou lose...you rather lose with no regrets and that wont happen in this one

I think this is the first time I have ever agreed with Cowherd on anything.

    helps the defense.

If they had it over again and rant he ball, then Carroll would e bucking the odds. Not smart.

If you look at pure numbers, throwing the ball gave the Seahawks the best chance to score. Lynch was 3 out of 7 crossing the goal lien from the one yard line this year. conversely, all quarterbacks threw touchdown passes at a 66% clip from the one yard line. Don't know what Wilson's individual stats were in that situation. Moreover, as I posted above, a failed running play would have had negative repercussions. The Seahawks would now be without a time out and would pretty much force them to throw the ball on third and goal. That limits the offense and helps the defense.

Listening to Grossi and all the "experts" on the air today calling it the "worst call in the history of sports" further proves to me how naïve people are.

Pretty good explanation by Carroll and kudos to him for understanding that running the ball on second down would crimp their style in forcing them to throw on third down if Lynch gets stuffed. Bitch all you want, but throwing the ball was absolutely the, right call to make. Now...if one wants to argue that Wilson should have rolled out with the option to run or throw....no argument from me.

    What was his take?

The Seahawks ran Lynch 5 times this year when they were inside the 3yd line. He scored once.

There were 0 1 yd line interceptions this year...until last night. Probably because people run it in!

Patriots had teams run the ball against them from the 1 yard line 6 times. They gave up 5 touchdowns. Odds would dictate a run being a touchdown. Footie, seldom right, and wrong again.
