Lol I'm sure plenty of guys have 1 or even more than 1. I'd even venture to say there is probably a guy out there who has more than Watt.Commander of Awesome;1665311 wrote:What I took away from that stat, watt does things in the NFL no other person on the plant can do. +5ff,sacks,tfl, passed deflected?!? Watt is great but he is no where close to being MVP. -
Laley237 games like that in a career this short is damn good. But, to think he is the only person is insane. Freeney off the top of my head had a few games with 2 sack fumbles which means he would only need one of the other things to get 5+
-
Laley23Just picked a random year for Dwight Freeney (2006) and saw he had a game with 3 FF and 3 Sacks, as well as a passed defensed. Im sure he had a few others like that, especially if you count TFL (though, to be fair, I dont recall if this was part of the stat criteria for the JJ Watt tidbit).
-
IliketurtlesTFL was included in the post you intiially gave when giving the stat lol.

Laley23
I know. Im not sure it was included when I heard it today though, thats what I meant.Iliketurtles;1665351 wrote:TFL was included in the post you intiially gave when giving the stat lol. -
Commander of AwesomeLaley, congrats you found a random game Dwight Freeney succeed. He wouldn't be drafted in a top 100 all time defensive player draft. Watt is like 1000000000000 times better.
Watt HOF, possible best defensive player ever convo. Freeney, no where close. -
GOONx19
Dwight Freeney had 45 sacks after 54 games in the NFL. Watt has 40.5 in the same number of games.Commander of Awesome;1665361 wrote:Laley, congrats you found a random game Dwight Freeney succeed. EDIT: Freeney also had 16 forced fumbles after 4 seasons. Watt has 8 now. Watt has the edge in fumble recoveries (8 to 3) and interceptions (1 to 0). All stats per Pro Football Reference. I'm sure Watt is way higher in pass deflections, as well. But Freeney is a HOFer. -

We'll see, but I doubt it.GOONx19;1665369 wrote:Dwight Freeney had 45 sacks after 54 games in the NFL. Watt has 40.5 in the same number of games.

Every GM would take Watt 11 times out of 10 over Freeney. Hall of very good. -
Laley23If Freeney isn't in the HoF, the HoF is a joke. Dude is the best DE the last decade (until Watt). He was a fucking beast in his prime for Indy. Unblockable, much like Watt.
-
Laley23Just looked again, Freeney had a game his rookie year with 3 FF, so that is twice at least.
-
Commander of AwesomeMan Laley, not a fan of either team. Others feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never considered Freeney a top 10 def player when he playing. Always seemed to me to be a guy benefiting from a off that was always scoring so he just had to rush the pass rusher. He did that well (excellent spin move) but not a run stopper, etc.. If he didn't hit the QB, little effect on the game. Maybe some others can chime in with their opinion, be curious to hear. Didn't even think (before tonight) it was up for discussion on freeney on being HoF worthy (might be wrong). Just my outside perspective.
-
sportchamppsJust gonna throw this out Kevin Greene has a lot more sacks then Freeney and hasnt gotten in. I would also include Ware and Jared Allen in the best DE in the last decade.

Outside perspective I consider both better then freeney. As is Julius peppers. By a lot.sportchampps;1665420 wrote:Just gonna throw this out Kevin Greene has a lot more sacks then Freeney and hasnt gotten in. I would also include Ware and Jared Allen in the best DE in the last decade. -

Never really looked at it that way but seems like most great pass rushers had a pretty good offense to keep the opposition passing. Freeney was one of the best at always being back near the QB and causing chaos. Just my opinion but for a few years he was definitely top 10 defensive player and I'd say top 5. Personally, I consider him a borderline HOF that'll just make it or just miss.Commander of Awesome;1665413 wrote:Man Laley, not a fan of either team. Laley23He won Def POY, was all pro 3 times and 2nd team all pro I think another 2
DEs I consider better recenely are Strahan, Taylor (before Freeney) and Peppers (during Freeney). Probably have to include Watt already. Jared Allen as well, I guess he was with Freeney as well.
The reason I am so high in Freeney is because, IMO, he was the best pass rusher. He was getting pressure almost ever snap when you knew a pass was coming. He also didn't just sack the QB, on almost half his sacks, he caused a TO as well. A sack fumbled is a huge play, and he was the best at it for a long time.
As a Colts fan, the dude drive me nuts when he wouldn't play the run early in the game. -
SportsAndLady^and because you're a colts fan lol
-
Commander of AwesomeFreeney has a better case than I thought, looking at his stats/accomplishments. Still think Madden/Collinsworth JOing to him on MNF (since the colts played every MNF game it seemed during the 2000s) helped hype him up. HAd a conversation this morning with a friend who is also a huge football fan and asked him the best def players over the last decade, Freeney's name NEVER came up which I think says it all. Borderline HoFer but I would say no.

thavoiceFreeney is 20th in career sacks.
They started keeping them in 1982.
I wonder why they dont go back and look at film to at least get the stats from the season of the first super bowl and see how people stack up. Granted, I mean, granite, I doubt there were as many sacks before then as they passed less and kept more people in to block back in the day. -
friendfromlowryHard to argue against Rodgers winning it.
