Titans vs Browns

I would trade West if it Carolina gave us a 1st (never gonna happen) or a 2nd.

That's only because 1) that's an absurd overpay in terms of value; 2) while I certainly enjoy having West and don't want to trade him, we only needed to hit on 1 of West and Crowell and it appears we hit on both

Edit: I don't know why we're talking about this though.

Agreed. Why are we talking about these pie in the sky trade scenarios when we could be talking about something legit, like the Manziel to Oakland trade?

Ben Tate is the best back on the team. That is all

I heard his interview today about Pettine making him the starter, assuming he's healthy, for the Titans game. Kinda sounded like a bitch throwing Crowell & West under the bus because "it's ok if you have one or two games but I've proven myself in this league" or something to that effect. Wasn't verbatim but every time the guy does an interview he rubs me the wrong way.

He has seemed pretty defensive when it comes to talking about the rookies. If it provides a chip on his shoulder, I am all for it. He is locked up for two years. If West/Crowell keep it up, I don't expect the Browns to resign Tate. Hopefully after Tate's 2nd season the Browns can find another rookie RB. Just keep churning them out.

Pretty sure Tate's 2nd yr is non guaranteed. I'd expect Browns to cut him honestly.

Why are we in a hurry to cut a guy with a cheap contract averaging 6.8 ypc and has proven when healthy to be a good nfl running back?

He has 6 carries. Enough of the 6.8 average stuff.
  • shook_17
6.8 over one game. Please stop acting like it's all three games. Yes he's good, but no Adrain Peterson. I think he is one and done though with the emergence of West and Crowell

Crowell hits the hole hard. West is shifty. Tate is both.

Agreed. I haven't been following his stats but heard 6.8 ypc on here yesterday and thought "nice." Then, driving home, I hear "on 6 carries for the year" and that changed to "not enough body of work to crown him yet."

I don't think anybody is in a hurry to cut him. What I do think is that, if history plays out, he'll be off the team because he'll be spending more time in the ice tub than on the field.

+1. It would be a little different if he missed a game or 2 a season as the featured back. That isn't the case though, he got hurt every year as a back up while averaging like 10 carries a game. If he stays healthy the rest of the year and is averaging around 5 YPC I doubt anyone is going to be calling for him to get cut.

What rubbed me the wrong way about his comments was that he came off like he has this long "track record" of being a proven feature back in the league when that's not the case.

He also took kind of a backhanded shot at his rookie teammates with his "that's ok if you do it for one or two games." Well, they've only played in 3 games so how would he know whether they could develop a track record or not?

Ben Tate seems very bitter at the fact he finally got the chance to be a feature back, got hurt again, and is seemingly going to be used in a platoon role. Coming off as very selfish, which has no place in a young, developing team.

Well said. Essentially my thoughts but you conveyed it much better.

You hear bitter. I hear confidence. Our RBs have 4 catches this year and have gone the wrong way(West) multiple times. This team is better with Tate and since you have depth, him being injury prone isn't as big of an issue. I like Crowell, I think hes going to be a beast in the league...but at this point you are a better team with Ben Tate as your lead back because he can do it all.

How do you know they're better with Tate? He has 6 carries lol he's basically played half a game. A half where we got blown the fuck out. Then he was replaced and the team came back lol

I actually agree with this a bit. Not that I think Crowell and West aren't good, I just would prefer to start a veteran over two rookies in week 5 because I feel like there will be fewer breakdowns in all aspects of the game (pass blocking assignments, pass catching, etc.) I DO think Crowell and West are both going to be good, but let's keep them hungry and not just hand it to them. It's not like we're Tennessee where Shonn Greene is the starter and Sankey is way more talented. Tate is a very good back with an injury history. Let's roll with him and spell the other two, and then if Tate goes down we've got two quality backs that have (hopefully) been working harder to show what they've got.

We will see if it hurts the team. I think it will just make him play harder. Nice to know we have depth at a position which in return makes our starter feel a sense of urgency. If we had that at every position we would look much better.

So now Josh Gordon is complaining about "all of the drug tests he has to take?" Really, Josh? Really?

I mean, it was a ridiculous amount of drug tests.

Go ahead and believe that all you want. 75+ drug tests in a year is crazy, I don't care who you are. We don't have convicted felons getting drug tested that many times.
