I 92's Baseball Trivia 1956-2014

  • Ironman92
Using only 3 MLB players (first was a teammate of the second and the second was a teammate of the third) list 3 players who have combined to play in every single one of those 59 MLB baseball seasons.

I cheated, somewhat. I started with Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez, and looked at the teams they started on. A-Rod played with Goose Gossage on the '94 Mariners, who played with Moe Drabowsky on the '72 White Sox and also started his career in 1956.

Now, if you went back to 2012, Jamie Moyer played with Davey Lopes on the '86 Cubs, Lopes played with Hoyt Wilhelm on the '72 Dodgers. Wilhelm started his career in 1952, but COULD HAVE played in 1943-1945 due to WWII.

You didn't cheat correctly....Arod hasn't played in 2014, so he can't be part of this.

Brooks Robinson - Eddie Murray - Paul Konerko

Started with Eddie Murray on a hunch. But, to my surprise, none of the 95 Tribe is still playing...

Konerko played with Murray though, as a 21 year old on the LAD.

    Is the first link, Jeter?

    WINNER+

You made a trio go 1 year further back.

Not the trio I had but yours is better.

    Jeter doesn't get it done.
  • Laley23
Lol. Ill keep trying for your trio.

    It's fun.

I can do it with three guys who all played for the Indians.

Frank Robinson --> Dennis Eckersly --> Jason Giambi

That was the 3 I did.

Had Paul Molitor came up for a cup of coffee in 1976 instead of 1977....we could've taken this back to 1954 with Hank Aaron
  • Laley23
Giambi! Great call on where to start. I was having trouble thinking of guys who started young and were still playing.

Beltran, Jeter and Soriano didnt work.

I tried Bobby Abreu and Torii Hunter, as well, but ended up in the '62-'65 range. Plus Abreu missed last season so he wouldn't have qualified.

Curious to see what the largest span of years we could come up with.

I was looking at Cobb's last year with the 1928 Philadelphia Athletics.

Mickey Cochrane, Al Simmons, Ty Cobb, Jimmie Foxx, Tris Speaker, Eddie Collins and Lefty Grove on the same roster.
  • Ironman92
I first tried LaTroy Hawkins but couldn't get as far as I thought I could.
  • Ironman92
Last year could've had Darren Oliver-Nolan Ryan-Roy McMillian all the way to 1951, though Ryan was never called up in 1967
  • Ironman92
    Al Simmons 1924- Elmer Valo-Jim Kaat 1983
  • Ironman92
    Warren Spahn 1941-Phil Neikro-Tom Glavine 2008

I'm sure Minnie Miniso can be tied into a longer one but he played like 15 years after retirement for like 1 game for show or something.

I'm not sure you can count them due to 1 year missed for military service and 1 for surgery, but here's a long one:

Early Wynn: 1941-1963 (DNP in '45 for WWII)
Tommy John: 1963-1989 (DNP in '75 for Tommy John)
    Al Leiter: 1987-2005

Using Warren Spahn - Nolan Ryan - Darren Oliver

    Their careers spanned from 1942-2013

Spahn did miss 1943-1945 for WW2 service and Nolan wasn't called up in 1967....

Stan Musial - Pete Rose - Jamie Moyer

Those 3 take you from 1941-2012 with Musial missing 1945 to WW2 and Jamie Moyer DNP in 2011.
