D'Backs at Tribe 8/12-8/13
-
HitsRusDiamondbacks in for a quick 2 game set...... Tribe will send T.J. House(1-3, 4.13) to the hill against the D'backs Colimenter (8-6, 4.09) in the opener Tuesday nite. It's Bauer vs Nuno to close the set Wednesday.
Nick Swisher and David Murphy are on the 15 day DL. Michael Bourn might be back in time for the Oriole series this weekend. -
TBone14Posted this on the other thread but that one will be dying soon.
Tigers getting smoked tonight. Tribe will be within 5. Didn't watch but from what I am reading Verlander topped out at 90 tonight and was mostly high 80's. Uh oh. -
HitsRusIt's hard to believe that the Tribe is still in this thing, but maybe reports of their demise have been greatly exagerrated.
-
TBone14This stretch is huge. 2 vs Arizona and the big 3 vs Baltimore at home. 4 of 5 there would be huge. Off days today, Thursday and next Monday so they should be fresh. After Baltimore it is Minnesota and then Houston comes to town. Very winnable stretch with 3 tough ones vs Baltimore mixed in. If they can get 2 of 3 vs the Birds, perhaps could be the makings of a nice run.
-
Laley23Also, 19 inning game yesterday and only 1IP from the starter today. Tigers pen has to be completely shot at the moment.
-
HitsRus...speaking of 'nice runs'....the Royals have won 9 out of 10 and slipped by the Kitties late last nite by beating Oakland. We are now chasing the Royals...and are 5 1/2 back.
-
like_that
We are chasing both teams if we want to see the playoffs, which we won't. This team is destined for a .500 season. Much rather see the royals win the division than Detroit.HitsRus;1643362 wrote:...speaking of 'nice runs'....the Royals have won 9 out of 10 and slipped by the Kitties late last nite by beating Oakland. HitsRus...meanwhile the Royals have acquired Josh willingham from the Twins for their stretch drive. The Tribe has gone AAA.
-
TBone14Looking ahead at the schedule, the Tribe only play 6 games vs teams with winning records the rest of the month. 3 this weekend vs Baltimore and ending the month with 3 at KC. Other than that, it is the last place DBacks, the last place Twins, the 49-70 Astros, and the 4th place White Sox.
Even going into September, we avoid the AL East, save for closing the season with 3 with the Rays. We also avoid the top 3 of the West except for a make up game with the Angels.
September
Tigers- 7
Twins-6
Astros-4
White Sox-3
Royal-3
Rays-3
Angels-1
Very manageable. Including August, that is only 17 of the remaining 44 games vs teams with a winning record. And we play the Twins 9 times and the Astros 7 times. -
Heretic
And, depending on how things shake, there might not be as much relief tonight as they wanted. I'm pretty sure Porcello (really good) was supposed to be the original starter tonight, but because he pitched the final two innings Sunday, they moved up Robbie Ray's (not good) turn so he starts tonight. In his last start, he went 3.1.Laley23;1643333 wrote:Also, 19 inning game yesterday and only 1IP from the starter today. Tigers pen has to be completely shot at the moment.
Of course, I've been a Pirates fan long enough to know that in a situation where they're going after a nobody the day after beating down a guy with the reputation of Verlander, they'll probably get shut down and Ray will have 7 innings of 2-hit ball. But it's nice to at least have the dream of utterly demolishing a tired bullpen (that sucks naturally). -

No they haven't. They give us no reason to believe that they are a playoff contender.HitsRus;1643306 wrote:It's hard to believe that the Tribe is still in this thing, but maybe reports of their demise have been greatly exagerrated. -

Believe me, I'd love to be optimistic and not be such a "Debbie Downer" but with the way this team has played all year, I just don't see them duplicating last years' run and leapfrogging four teams in the process. Would LOVE to be wrong but I'm just not seeing it.BRF;1643446 wrote:Hope springs eternal. -
BRFEveryday, I look at the standings to count how many teams are up on us for the wild card. It doesn't look good.
-
HitsRusI just don't see the horses necessary to carry this team to the playoffs. The contenders made moves t strengthen their stretch runs...the Tribe dumped veterans. More than that...two more vets are on the DL replaced by AAA players. Half the starting rotation rides the Columbus shuttle regularly. I want to believe but.....
If Terry Francona leads this group of ragtags to a playoff spot, he should be canonized. -
HitsRusTribe lineup tonight boasts 4 players who have spent half or more the season at Triple A this year...and that doesn't include the starting pitcher, T.J. House.
Jose Ramirez.. Chris Dickerson... Tyler Holt....and the DH Tonite........
.....wait for it....
Zach Walters. -
BRF^^^ Wow! (on the DH)
There's a real "wild card" line up! -
Mohican00Kipnis with the ribbie.......1-0
-
BRF1-0 after 3.
Kipnis double knocks in AAA Dickerson.
Edit: sorry Mohican00, ya beat me to it.
and now a rain delay -
Mohican00
no worries. Overlap posts will happen in these action packed tribe threadsBRF;1643571 wrote:1-0 after 4.

TBone14Tigers lose again. Royals getting thumped. Royals are due to come back to earth for a couple games.
-
HitsRusT.J. House's nice start and the Tribe 1-0 lead were washed out by the rain last nite...
The game will be made up today as part of a twi-night doubleheader. First game starts at 4:05.
The Tribe will send Trevor Bauer and Josh Tomlin to the hill .
for Tigerfan00 and crimson streak from the other thread....
Chafin will start the first game of the DH against Bauer.Andrew Chafin from Western Reserve(Collins) high school was just called up to Arizona. Great timing for family and friends to go see him play in person at this level. -
BR1986FBCollins Western Reserve? Had no idea that one of our former archnemesis' had a major league ready player? Good for the Rough Rider!
-
BRFSurprised they started the first game that late in the day.
Bauer HAD a no-no into the 6th with no score in the game.
And now we are F-ing down 1-0.
