    Tough ass matchup with Kluber

I saw Kluber 2 years ago (extensively) in Columbus and wondered if he'd ever make the majors. Amazing where he's at. He's due for a bad outing, hopefully it's tonight.

Tomorrow, big advantage with Cueto. Wednesday, Latos vs Salazar (funny, I saw them match-up 2 months ago in Columbus).

Reds NEED 3 of 4, at minimum. I still maintain that this team has no chance, given the prognosis on Votto and Phillips. Both won't be back until early September.

I say BP will struggle hitting when he comes back and not really help at all.

I say the same with VOtto. I dont think he will be right until next spring.

    Which contract will be worse...

    Dalton or Homer Bailey?

Would have to see the details of AD's deal with the guarentee's and such. Baseball usually can shrug off a bad contract easier with no cap
  • sportchampps
The reds can not afford a bad contract like Votto or bailey no cap or not

Maybe the question should have been whose contract will be worse.....Bailey, Votto or the ginger?
    I would vote Votto.

Almost just spit out my drink from laughing just now. Jack Hannahan as the fucking DH. LOL.
  • gport_tennis
    Votto for sure
  • gport_tennis
Has a team made it half way through a 10 year monster contract yet and thought...man I'm glad we have this guy for 5 more years and 150 mill
  • wildcats20
A run, a run. We scored a run!!!!!
  • Ironman92
You wouldn't think a team with Cozart, Schumaker and Hannahannnahannahan would have trouble scoring

I was given shit when i said Bailey was not worth the money he was given.

    Not by me man....no way.

I don't really understand the whole money aspect to baseball players. There isn't a cap, castellini could pay jack hannahan 10 million a year and it wouldn't effect the team. (Slight hyperbole there but you get my point)

But yes, baileys not worth that much money. Although I'm glad we have him, he's a good 4/5 in the rotation.

    But getting paid #1-#2 money....

    But does that matter?

I was also given shit for saying it. He'll have a pretty good 2nd half like he does every year and people will be back on the "Homer will someday be an ace" bandwagon.

    I take it we lost?

Because most teams work within a framework of a budget. Most of these owners, if not all, have their real jobs where they made the millions and they keep both separate from one another. Although Castellini, and before him Uncle Carl, were millionaires they dont necessarily take money from one and u se it for the other. Reds work within some sort of budget.

Not to me....but the owner isn't going to spend like the Dodgers or Yankees so at some point it has to strap us a bit.

He did nothing to earn that amount of money....so far this year he has been our 4th best starter. He can make $600,000,000 for all I care.

I'd like to think had he signed for a little less that Walt would've went out to find a replacement for the loss of Votto and Phillips....or solidify the LF position.

Homer has great stuff and has improved at " pitching"....,,but I've never trusted him against the good teams.

Bailey is the one I'm LEAST concerned about being worth his contract. He's NOT an ace, but he has ace-stuff on a given night and despite a rough start, he's about a 3.4 ERA split since.

If he can put that together consistently next year, and just become maybe 5-10% smarter on the mound and deliver those striking blows better, he's worth his contract.

Lets face it. Votto and Phillips got paid for their past. Phillips even moreso. Given he got his big deal at 32, it's not at all a shock that his long-term deal extends into his declination period. Votto is still 29, and while he's been a bum for 2 years with the leg, it's still something that can be salvaged. His impact of even just a .300/.400 split hitter in the middle of your order transforms your entire offense.
