Johnny Manziel, San Diego Padre

  • Ironman92
He got picked before Mariano Rivera
  • Tiernan
He'd be a better baseball player than the disaster he's gonna be in Cleveburgh.

840+ picks? how big of a joke is the mlb draft

That was Rivera's son that got picked. I couldn't believe how many people got fooled by that. A simple DOB check would have made it obvious.

or an ounce of common sense.

Don't know what you are talking about?

People on twitter (shouldn't be a surprise). SB Nation tweeted it out that the Yankees took Mariano Rivera without clarification, and some people responded, well, like idiots would.

lol well yeah but I said that because SB Nation's tweet contained the DOB

I saw it on twitter via MLB....assumed it was either his son or maybe even a random player with that name.

    Why?

They need to fill, what, 32 major league rosters as well as 5+ rosters of their affiliates...not to mention the amount of HS players who need to be picked and end up choosing college.

Johnny Manziel was drafted. I don't think I need much more to prove my point.

.0011% of the picks were not taken seriously

    That proves nothing.

Because a team was willing to "waste" a pick on an NFL QB in hopes that he might choose baseball over the NFL?

If you assume the Padres are looking at the future value of each pick, they'll probably end up making more money from Johnny Manziel Padres shenanigans than whoever they would have taken there.

Joke pick, but shrewd business move IMO.

what evidence do we have that suggests Manziel would ever consider playing baseball, let alone possesses anywhere near the skill to play in the MLB besides playing little league and throwing out a few first pitches? As far as I know he wasn't offered and college scholarships.

Agreed, but it shouldn't come to that. The NFL has it right with their special PR stories. Free agency.

Manziel was poised to play baseball and football at Oregon...Then he switched to Texas A&M

well you got me there I guess. Still don't think it merits wasting a draft pick on him.

Or was it just updated recently with them drafting him again?

    Edit:

Nevermind, article mentions nothing about drafting him, just that he visited last year.
