Until Latos returns, who the hell else replaces him? We saw what happened when Jeff Francis had to pitch...

Question for those who watched/listened SUnday night. I was there to see this spectacular display of offense....

On the replay at second what did the commentators say? From the replay it clearly showed BP blocking the base with his leg well before he got the ball. I know at some levels you cannot do that, and in MLB now the catcher cannot block the plate without the ball.

    Just wondering what they said.

Ya know what the cards will do next time? slide feet first if he wants to do that.

Francis wont be the option if someone gets called up.
He just happened to be the lucky one who was scheduled to pitch that day with the rainout/DH the previous day for the reds.

Point is, the organization has NOBODY. To send Cingrani down when he led the team in almost every category last year is insane. That is, unless the team has mailed in the season and becomes more concerned with Tony Cingrani in 2-3 years than NOW. I'd be fine with that, but you then also start cleaning house of guys with big salaries and/or diminishing value due to contracts (Cueto, Broxton, Marshall, Phillips, Ludwick, etc...)

I am not a proponant of sending him down now. WHen Latos comes back it will most likely be Cingrani who is sent down unless someone else gets hurt.

Of those players you mention cleaning house......I am ok with any of them but Cueto. I know he is going to command a huge contract but I am never in favor of getting rid of just not your best pitcher, but one of the best in the league.
After Homer got his deal everyone pretty much figures either Latos or Cueto will not get resigned. The way JC has pitched and with ML injured..I think they make a run at JC.

So, Latos replaces Cingrani, Simon stays in the rotation and the Reds continue to sport the WORST bullpen in the NL by over 30 points?

If you're serious about competing, you put your best 11 pitchers on the roster and Cingrani is certainly one of them.

On the contrary, say Latos makes 18 starts, has a decent year and will sign for what Bailey did? Do you take that, try to trade Cueto for some hitting/prospects in the off-season and roll with Bailey, Latos, Cingrani, Leake and Simon/Stephenson next year? The Reds have very limited assets to improve their hitting and their competition window is rather narrow (Chapman and Bruce are FA's after 2017, and I don't see either of them being around unless it's for outrageous cash).

Man...just hit me against the face right now! Mind is foggy right now.
I totally forgot about Chicken Alfredo Simon.....

Latos come back, most likely Simon goes to the BP even though he has pitched well.
Unless Price would want Cingrani to replace Parra or Marshall in the BP.

This team needs hitting in the worst way. I havent paid much attention to the lower levels to see if any hitting is there to be had. Only other way is to overpay in FA or a trade. Simon wont get ya anything in a trade.

It really hurts that Votto isnt producing like they though. Yeah, I get his OPS and OBP has been good, but you pay a guy a quarter of a billion dollars to drive in 100+ a season. I like JV, and we realized when he was signed that it was overpaying and the back end would look bad, but until he can drive in 100+ he also isnt contributing enough.

Cozart has been hitting better and shook off a slow start, and so has BH. Heisey has proven, AGAIN< that he is nothing more than a PH and Ludwick...wow his contract really sucks for the reds.

Yes, I dislike Cozart, but Cozart and Hamilton are NOT the problem. I know Cozart blew it last night with the fielding error, but he's been a top 5 defensive SS since he came up. He's there to bat 8th, hit .230-.250 with maybe 40-50 RBI's. Hamilton, since his awful start, has actually been very solid and is playing an even better CF than Choo.

The major problems are 1. the lineup construction and 2. the sheer lack of power from Bruce, Votto, Ludwick and Phillips. If the Reds just had their typical, HR or bust type season, they would be right there with the SP they have gotten. Much of the pen struggles are due to Chapman (and Broxton) missing time. That is not only key guys missing, but a complete alteration in bullpen roles which usually spells trouble.

What is sad is that Cozart only had ten less RBI's than Votto last year..and JV I believe played in all 162 games.

And this season.........Votto 12 RBI's. Cozart 12 RBI's. (JV has played in 6 less games though).

Ludwick wont return to any power numbers and neigther will Phillips. Bruce can light it up pretty quick.
