    Damn it, Swisher, wtf!!!

This defense is just totally unacceptable. It isn't even getting better as the season goes on which makes it that much worse.

If things stay as they are tonight and Detroit wins we will be 9.5 games out.

If they play even .500 ball from here on out that would put them at 88 wins.

To get to 88 wins we would need to go 69-50 the rest of the way to get to 88 wins.

I think even to get that second wild card slot it will take at least 84/85 wins, so by continuing to fall in the hole it is making it that much harder down the stretch even though it is technically still early.

Tito is moving guys around too much and it is making the defense suffer. You can't keep playing guys here and there and it not have a negative effect. All that flexibility they want looks better on paper than it does on the field night in and out.

I'm not a big fan about moving guys around, but other than a utility player lke Aviles, and the Santana experiment...who else is playing out of position? Frankly, I could live with Santana's errors while he learns 3B, if he was at least, hitting his weight, and had twice as many home runs and rbi's.....but he's not.

Tale of two teams.....Oakland and Cleveland were pretty similar teams LAST YEAR. Oakland went out and got Scott Kazmir, while the Tribe let him go without an offer thinking Carlos Carrasco was going to take his place:laugh:. The Tribe also passed on Ubaldo Jimenez thinking Danny Salazar was going to take his place. :( The Tribe also let Joe Smith slip away.... thinking cheaper options could take his place. SMH.

In all cases the team opted for cheaper options instead of quality players, and now we are seeing the result. This may be 2008 all over again, where the team was poised on the edge of contention...and then backed away rather than commit the dollars necessary to stay there. A case could be made in their defense that they went out and locked up their 'core players'....but in reality, none of those players was going anywhere soon. The only one that demanded imminent attention is /was Justin Masterson....and that ended in failure.
In another month and a half, I fully expect we will be entertaining trade rumors for Masterson....if the front office isn't doing that already.

    Agree

Didn't like it when it happened.

Thought it was a good move.

    Didn't care.

Right now, it wouldn't bother me in the least.

    Better than expected
    Chisenhall, Tomlin, Murphy, Morgan

    About as expected
Brantley, Kipnis, Aviles, Kluber, Allen, Shaw

    meh
Cabrera,Bourn, Axford, Gomes, Ascherton, Outman, Masterson, McCallister

    below expectations
    Swisher, Carrasco, Raburn, Salazar

    way below expectations
    Santana
I would put Brantley between better and about expected. his average I think is about normal, but he is showing more power so far and leads the team in HRs.

    Masty looking like crap....again.
  • Glory Days
Looks like today's game is about to get blown open by the A's.
  • Glory Days
well stick a fork in them today. might as well get started on my yard work. no need to keep watching this shit show.
  • vball10set
...and Tito waits too long to pull an inept starter...again.
  • Laley23
Masterson is losing a lot of money this season.
  • Mulva
He's pitching like he did in 2009. And 2010. And 2012.
  • vball10set
another pathetic error....they don't seem to care, why should I?

    My thoughts, too.

My attempt at a thread will never happen again. I think I'm about to quit investing time watching this garbage team until they decide to show up consistently.

Santana has been garbage but has a higher OBP than Nick the Prick. A buck ninety six just doesn't cut it for any position player especially a power hitting first baseman. Today a dribbler went through his legs again. That makes 6 errors. 6! My son played first and had 3 errors over 3 years in high school. It's by far and away the easiest position to play on the field. Last year he played the injury card as his excuse. What's the deal Nick?

Never thought his signing and the money he commanded made sense. He's been a perennial mediocre ball player. This year he can't reach the Mendoza line.

It's a long season but let's get real here. This season is over. Stick a fork in em.

....and all of this just as the Tigers come to town. This could get really ugly fast. The team seems to be in free fall.

I need to think about this statement a while.

    You may be right.

at least last year when they struggled, there were still signs of life which gave hope. I just don't see that so far.

Didn't get to see too much of this series. I am glad. What an ass whipping. 7 errors by the Tribe in 3 games. 30 runs allowed. And by the way, that isn't even the best team in the league. That team is coming to town next and they are smoking hot.
  • vball10set
    Outscored 30-6, at home...'nuff said.

I've always thought this. He seems like a great guy to be around but he's nothing special as a player.

Swisher would see better pitches and be a lot better hitter if he was surrounded by some other sticks. In this lineup, he just tries/forced to do too much. Biggest mistake of the off season, other than letting 2/5 of a good pitching staff walk....was not solidifying the middle part of the order with a legitimate big bopper. Even last year, there was little room for error for the pitchers, as this offense was just not good enough to overcome a bad inning of pitching. With the pitchers struggling more this year...the problem is magnified.
In order for this team to win the pitchers have to be nearly perfect and the defense has to play error free. It's not happening.
